3D models

Postby Almantas » 05 Feb 2015, 13:42

Hello,
I would like to ask if there is any possibility to get some 3D models from any open source game developers? We are creating awesome website where you can print 3D models with 3D printer, and need some examples. We are interested only in open source game models until we expand. I'm looking forward for some reply's.

Hi Almantas and welcome,

You can check OpenGameArt, there is some awesome stuff there under open source licenses.
You can also check Blend Swap for Blender models.

Thanks for links, but actually i am looking for open source game developers who could share their 3D game models, and our company are willing to pay some percentage for every sold figure.

Akien {l Wrote}:check Blend Swap for Blender models.

Some stuff there can easily get OP into huge trouble. For example, http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/80077 is itself based of a 3d printed product (sold for $100). While the model was released as public domain, it still infringes copyright, and the original authors will happily sue your small startup into non-existence.

All of those have a tag indicating its fanart, you just need to be a bit careful and you wont get into any trouble. What kinds of models are you looking for? i kind of keep tack of all worthy ones around

Unfortunately there is no "fanart" tag for the wasp character. The tag "marvel" won't tell you anything, unless you're a huge comics expert.

Most other works are copyright infringing too. For example http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/80530 says the license is CC-BY, but the original author won't be happy with people stealing his concept art.
