Realtime animation retargeting

Sadly close source, but the new Unity4 engine (now for Linux too, yay!) has a very interesting new feature:

What is does is retarget animation data from one character to a completely different one, which would solve all the problem open-source game currently have with character animation... so if someone would write an open-source library for this it would be absolutely awesome ;)

Probably there is some research paper one could base the lib on... I will search a bit later I guess.
