Sigh... Email is dead because of spammers, online payments are broken because of massive fraud... bitcoin is basically run by the mafia. Humanity sort of sucks

I wouldn't put it that way! Bitcoin has a very powerful community of 1st class developers who define the vector of its development. To say that about btc is the same as to say that US dollar is run by mafia. Or any other national currency in the world. BTC and cryptocurrencies have tons of advantages over any regular currency in the world (and also over gold).
Here are my thoughts about where to invest first of all.
