RPG Maker MV

RPG Maker MV

Postby dulsi » 27 Jan 2019, 03:56

I've been playing around with RPG Maker MV. I was really reluctant to purchase it due to not being open source but I wanted to try it out. I used the Make a 2D RPG in Weekend book which I got in a humble bundle. I wrote a review of the book. My initial draft included some thoughts on the program itself but I decided to just stick to a review of the book. I plan to do a review of the program itself later.

My reasoning behind trying the program was mainly to see the features of the program. It is an impressive development tool. I'd still rather have on open source program of course.

Well, there's EasyRPG <https://easyrpg.org/>, but I don't know how usable it is right now.

I haven't compiled it and tried it but the documentation suggests it's not really usable yet. It is also based on RPG Maker 2003. I don't know how that version compares to MV.

If you are comparing it to other similar projects and have a look at Solarus: http://www.solarus-games.org/
Which is open-source despite their use of Zelda game assets in some showcase games.
