Simple models

Hi all!
As supposed, I open a new topic for simple models needed for the game. I'm learning Blender and would be happy to help as a good way to have some practice.
I thnik first of all I need to know the requirements for the models (i.e. number of verticies/polygons) and the model types that are still needed.
A few bed models attached as a single archive (previous posts may be deleted).

A few tips before anything, normally for a game that is not a first person you dont need much detail on decorations and, smooth curves rises up the poly count too fast and makes it more difficult to skin and UVmap.
Having a photo or concept helps a lot while moddeling.

Your first bed (wooden) would be the most usable, but you should sorrect some points:

-the pillow can be an enlarged cilinder saving up a lot of polys, like i told you before curves are too poly heavy, you can make a nice looking pillow just extruding a rectangle a few times
- Normally beds have a mattress over the frame, you can make the table under the sheets taller and later make the difference between frame and matress by using a texture
-Sheets dont need to have wrinkles and the like, that can be done by textures or normal mapping, just make a plane and give it the proper shape of a sheet, details can be faked later.

Got it...
But the question still remains, how many polys/triangles/vertexes should be max here?
E.g. The whole bed may be just 5 cubes (the bed itself and columns) with everything else painted over a texture. Or even just a single cube with no lower poly and alpha channel in a texture.

And another question: is there a list of monsters that do not have beds. And any other (yet static) models, suitable for my present level?
I need much more complex models for my FOSS game and therefore I need to learn to make/sculpt simple models first. And I think that it would be much better to do something useful, than just to make unneeded projects. While there is absolutely no problem in having to re-do something, its still better than modelling some flowers etc.

UPD: As far as I understood, all the beds must have equal height to width to length ratio.

we need a proper bed, if you did something close to the photo we will use it as some heroes bed. A bird-like nest, a very small pond, a hay bed, a rock bed and many others... there is a list of creatures around i f you like one and think you can make/imagine a bed for it you are welcome.

Most will have 1x1, but beds for humans and big creatures can be 2x1 or 2x2

Still... how many polys? That bed as shown above will have a lot of them... and must be simplified to some level. The relief may be made by a bump-mapping... but what about pillows and a blanket? Should they be made a separate objects (a cramped blanket takes at least 36 vertexes)? Or just left to be imitated by a texture?

less than 500 polis is a good target for something this simple, if details can be added by texture simplify as much as you can

Something like this?

you need to lower the matress by a lot

Hi,

The models are nice, too bad we do not have vampires :(
Concerning the bed size, it is from 1x1 to 5x5 actually. Bigger creatures have bigger beds :)

Changed the height.
96 vertexes / 55 faces (if 300 is the limit, it can be made more complex. I.e. with a decorative hole near the pillow as in the image above)

Daisy bed for a fairy

Web bed for a spider (A simple textured octagon might do it better)

Goo bed e.g. for a lizard (357 faces, seems too detailed)

why dont you have a go at texturing them? look here for good textures

If the models are ok, then I'm on it :) But it'll take me some time to (still too new to texturing).

Another model: Hammock bed for pirates.

Hammock is good, you can texture it (it shouldbe prettty simple)

done Hammock texturing... Used wood4 by Luke.RUSTLTD from opengameart with CC0 and a GIMP-plugin for weave. I still don't like the ropes, maybe its better to redraw them?

Hey, thats pretty good :) ill get it ingame when i get back from work, can you do next the small volcano-like bed? it will be good for an aquatic creature like the tentacle or the swamp pup; so maybe you could made the water greenish with some floating leaves (like one menufar leaf) and a greyish stony texture for the rock?

Also, whats your license for the hammock? CC0, cc-by or cc-by-sa?

Let all my models & textures (and any other content) for this topic/game be CC0 (public domain) unless I'm using something with other license from opengameart (I'll inform on any 'foreign' file I use).

Next model: Spider lair
Using rock 5 by West from opengameart with CC0 plus three hand-drawn webbings in GIMP.
Webbing-textured.jpg

And the volcano-like bed for a lizard.
Used:
rock 5 by West from opengameart with CC0
plant_56 by rubberduck from opengameart with CC0
GooBed-textured+leaves.jpg

Is the water too bright?
And another thing that worries me: there are 357 faces. Is that ok for this model?
One more detail: the model is hollow inside, so the water should be non-transparent. Maybe it'll be a good idea to re-make the model for transparency compatibility and less faces?

The beds look nice :)
Concerning the spider bed, could you tell if the web is on the ground ? In the picture, it seems not. That would look weird in game if the spider was not on the web...

The web is attached to stone spikes (two hanging vertically and one at 45 degrees). I thought of spider sleeping 'inside' the web. I think I can revert to a kind of hexagonal web resting on six stones as modelled above, but with web being a texture (it would look better and less faces to render).

Next model: Do not disturb (1x2 bed)
I think it will do for any capable-of-writing monster.

i dont think you need to change any of the beds above (maybe darker water, but ill do it); i would just modificate the bed with wooden signal and give the carpet an animal brownish/blackish fur texture (there is a lot on oga) and made the letters dumber; and the bed will be perfect for our orc! :D

As long as the beds are lower than 600 polis/tris/faces there wont be any problem, so dont worry too much about it :)
