Title Screen

Title Screen

Postby Skorpio » 26 Nov 2012, 21:12

I think we could use a new title screen, because the current one looks kind of boring with the repetitive texture. Here's what I have so far. The title itself could be changed, too. It would be cool to have an own font for Open Dungeons. Does anyone want to create one? :)

Here's another version with some added lighting effects on the background. I'm not sure about the red glow of the previous version. Maybe it would look cool, if the text was engraved into the background. I'll try that later. BTW, I think this should only be a placeholder till we get something more spectacular in the future and I guess we'd need a widescreen and a higher resolution version anyway. I don't know how to replace the old title screen. Can anyone tell me how it works?

It certainly could be. I think Skorpio was aiming for something simple (to increase chances it'd get done sooner).

Yeah, it's just a quick and simple placeholder. For something more complicated like a flythrough, we should wait till the graphics are more complete.

Couldnt a small 3d scenario be created with current 3d models?

Thinking on things easily doable, main menu screen could be redone into something like dk2, buttons over a 3d scenario composed of a view of an underground corridor, with eerie music, water drops sounds and creepy shadows moving in the distance.

No need to have a moving camera

Its first part of multiple level loading and scene management, is that functionality in place?

You can start to work on something like this at any time if you want. Nobody is stopping you. ;)

You know, having made a bit in Unity3d, this kind of thing is ultra easy to do. Would it be possible at all with our current engine?

Anything is possible with open source, just more work.

You'd have to implement it in C++ for it to work.

And the title screen has a very low priority, so we should better spend the time on something else.

I like this one the best :)

I have actually begun making a font, some time ago. If I remember correctly I only need to do kerning to have an initial draft. But it only supports the most basic characters of ANSI, so no Unicode support. I actually do not know how many characters there needs to be made to have a Unicode font, but if I recall correctly then there are 1 million different symbols in Unicode, I would not like to make all of them!!!

I think we could use this font: http://openfontlibrary.org/en/font/triod-postnaja It's a bit difficult to read, though. Here's another interesting font that is easier to read: http://openfontlibrary.org/en/font/eadui

If you find a good open source Diablo font, please post it here.
