I got one of the models into the game by going via the .obj format and exporting from blender 2.4, though the model was wrongly scaled and rotated. Would be awesome with some help from people who know this stuff.

Okay, I got the exporter for 2.5 working in a windows VM, so will export the models into the game tomorrow.
Found out why the models i exported were scaled wrong as well. (Scale not applied or something.)
