Hi, yes Skorpio, im interested in those books ill send a pm about that.
Regarding the model it looks great, thought i had envisioned the back armor into an armadillo style, but also quite good as this, lets see what can you do with the next concept im planning...

Thats an interesting development Skorpio, though based on a little misunderstanding, on my screenshot was the same guy twice, looking in different directions.

I make a more informative screenshot to make clear what I meant with that guy.
constr2_prev2.png

The basic idea is to assemble them out of raw parts, preferably stone/metal, that have been roughly around a medieval time. Some oversizing is probably not to avoid (like I did with the meathook), but gives the whole thing some surreal touch, what is nothing bad imo. That is where the W40K impression came from probably.

If you guys still dont like it, its okay, just wanted to make the idea behind it clear.

Skorpio {l Wrote}:I was tempted to work out Danimal's concept, so I changed the head, gave it a round, glowing eye and added some rudimentary runes and glow.

This is pretty cool :), I like it. The golden color is not right yet though, it is too yellow, it should be more golden, but that is probably easier to do when the thing is actually modelled.

riidom {l Wrote}:If you guys still dont like it, its okay, just wanted to make the idea behind it clear.

It explained the thing yes :), but I still do not think it fits with the Constructs though.

I also have an idea for a construct, I will try and begin sketching him tomorrow evening and later upload it here. Then maybe Skorpio can do some of his awesome magic to it ;)

I knew those were two creatures on the screenshot, but it felt kind of natural to me to combine them in one and give them a torso, so that the limbs became actual legs and the spikes arms.

A construct concept I made ages ago. Not sure if it's on the wiki or if I even made it for OD originally

You did, I remember it, and I think it is also in the wiki's media files. Probably not on a page.

The idea that its limbs are floating could actually be interesting. The look is a bit too hitech, with colors and stuff but I think the floating limbs has potential.

I've prepared some new sketches. First I thought a more chaotic look would be nice, but I've changed my mind and now I prefer something like sketch 7 (I call it Flea ;) (it still needs arms)). I think all constructs should be assembled out of these roundish, sharp panels like in this sketch. Also, I like the four legged constructs like sketch 3 and 5 (the Armadillo and the Crab).

Wow, that is pretty cool. For those of you who don't know you can hover your mouse over the pictures to see how they are numbered (they do not seem to be in order).

I agree with you about 7 (the flea) and like the look of that one, it is not organic but not mechanical either. On the colored version of that one I would suggest a darker color, something more like corroded/dirty metal like an old bronze statue with very little shine, they are working underground afterall. 3 and 4 would be my next favorite (I assume this is the armadillo), although I prefer it with the 3 "teeth" rather than the saw on front, the body looks good in either one though. I would say number 6 would also make a good creature for the constructs but I do like the style of the other ones I mentioned more. Also, I think number 6 could be improved by doing something different on the top of the head (i think that is the only thing that really sets it off from the others). Maybe removing the rounded part with the spikes and making the two "triangular" objects below it come up higher so they stick out on top. I really like how you attached the sword blades on that one though with the two pins stuck through, that suggests these have a "manufactured" element to them, so they are not just magical, this also fits more with the current idea of the backstory I think.

Actually, I think I may try to hack together a model using 6 as a template. I have also been doing some more work on the lizardman and have a pretty nice skeleton made for it now. I am finishing up adding constraints/stiffness to the IK solver child bones so it will be easy to animate with.

Total awesomeness :) Skopio, I really like the colors on sketch8, and the other ones has allot of nice qualities, I have an idea for a scout for the constructs which I will try and make a sketch, it resembles a seahorse which rolls. I thought about it the other night.

I've added some color to the Flea with a gradient overlay. It's not perfect but gives a good impression of how a colored construct could look like.

I'm looking forward to seeing more concepts from you guys.

Since the construct issue has calmed down and my test are finished i want to propose the final layout of the Heroes side:

The Heroes:

The Heroes will have the following creatures. We now need more detailed descriptions of them, and then we need to make proper concept art of them, so modeling can begin:

Scout:
- Wisp (flying ball of light, like Navy from zelda, but less annoying), not much to say, fast, likes to scout and is a very poor fighter.

Weak fighter:
- Halfling, fast, medium damage, low hp (The fatty short type that appeared in "Overlord" pc game would be great)
- War-Dog, fast, medium damage, medium hp (like this guy http://www.mybuddydog.com/ddb.jpg and maybe armored like this one: http://privateerpress.com/files/imageca ... ar-dog.png)

Weak spellcaster:
- Cleric, low damage spells, medium hp, slow, can heal and have some anti-undead special spells(or a damage bonus)
- Maiden, medium damage spells, low hp, the cheerleader of the dungeon (boost performance of other creatures)

Strong fighter:
- Knight, an all rounder, good hp, damage and low speed (already have a model, thought it could use a total revamp)
- Barbarian, fast, high damage, medium to low hp, high damage skills (the model should be modelled after Conan or no one else! the loincloth wont give much proteccion so it should have either low hp or armor, depending on game mechanics)

Strong spellcaster:
- Wizard, high damage spells, medium HP, slow (we have a model in the works)
- Fairy, medium damage spells, low hp, pretty fast, support buffs to other units.(irlicht fairy could be used)

Guard:
- Crossbowman, low speed, high HP,high damage, armed with a crossbow, (reference: http://www.beneito.com/catalog/images/90-9-1.JPG http://www.paderos.com/images/product_i ... 3514_1.jpg)
- Elf, high speed, medium damage, medium health armed with a bow and leather armor (quite the generic crap we are used to, also dont they have their own race? Maybe change to longbow archer? http://www.deviantart.com/download/1360 ... ngaren.jpg )

Weak builder:
- Blacksmith, low stats on everything except good hp, builds.(the kind you find in every rpg village, musclebound and with a hammer)

Strong builder:
- Dwarf, with good stats overall, builds, sturdy as hell, warhammer on hand.

Summons:
Angel (Spell Caster - Can heal and raise dead - very few HP - Prime target in combat)

Super creature:
- King, uber stats, hard to manage, bonus to creatures like maiden has.

Ok suggestions acepted to this race creatures, also does it looks too obvious i hate elfs for no particular reason?. Lets see if we can finish this race and pass to the next.

Also, can i erase advanced workers from the wiki?

It think this looks pretty good, I will give it some more thoughts the next couple of days, I really like this dog :) it fits so good with the humans :)
Image

Also regarding Elfs they can be pretty cool, just look at the Dungeon faction from Heroes of Might and Magic 5, they are pretty neat and elfish :) They are called dark elves, I think they are pretty suitable for our game, adapted of course :)

They do not need to be some tree hugging hippies just because they are elves, they can be bad-ass even thought they look like they where make-up :) Just look at Alice Cooper and KISS they also wear make up, but are still pretty bad-ass :P

I agree with you, dark elves are not gay like the normal ones, a dark elf faction would be awesome. Also look the other dog image, its the same race of dog but phantasy flavored

I like the dog with no armor, at least of the two images, it might look cooler once it is modeled.

Yeah, we're very busy with the new release and the current assets, so we don't have much time to discuss creature/faction design questions at the moment.

I want your opinion over the human faction. Also, i think getting it ready before the new wiki gets alive would be good.

I like the human faction composition you made :), only complaint is the elf I think the longbow archer is better since we will have a dark elf faction. I still need to write the backstory for those guys by the way.

But I am pretty satisfied by your list, so I say lets go :)

Also I have a few sketches for the Construct scout by the way I will post it once I get my scanner hooked up.

Regarding the advanced worker then I think we should not have them, mainly because of the creature spawing panel I have discussed earlier. It is like the panel in Evil Genius you use to select workers with, which means you can compose your forces as you like, given you fulfill each creatures requirements of course and of course also limited to the number of creatures your portals will let you control/let through.

Now we have the lists of creatures for the humans and the undead then lets make some concept art for them, I think it is easier to get modelers to actually make the models if we already have concept art for them.

It seems to be pretty dead in the forums generally, so I will start doing something, hopefully people will follow :)

Next up is finishing the creature lists for the remaining factions, and then beginning to make each creature description more detailed, and then make concept art. I found an excellent tool to make mindmaps called FreeMind, which I am currently putting in our current creature lists and characteristics of them. I will post it here later tonight, so we can collaborate on it :)

I also have a rough sketch of how I imagine the Construct scout should be, then we can discuss it and maybe make a new and better sketch, and finally get an actual concept of it :)
