hello there,
I'm quite interested in doing some concepts for the constructs
Image

that was just me messing around with ideas but I am going to start some better ones (hopefully) now

I didn't manage to draw it brilliantly but the concept was to have the soul stone or whatever you called it earlier in the centre of a gyroscope
a gyroscope idea would fit with your description because it keeps spinning without any power being given to it, tipping the gyroscope would also allow you to turn so you could link that in with the movement of the constructs
a gyroscope is pretty much the perfect complimentary mix of witchery and mechanics imo

Very nice that you want to help out with concepts :)

The idea with the gyroscope could work, I think the hearthstone should be bigger though. but you last concept looks too much like a futuristic robot made in the 50-60's

This guy is good inspiration:

and this

and the glow-effect on the joints from this guy
Image
the colors on this guys is also nice, but ignore its shape, only look at the colors, golden metal and greenish glow

Here is my idea of the Construct scout, maybe you can work on that a bit?

thanks for the inspiration and the welcome :)
I knew the last concept I did looked pretty bad but I really wanted to get the gyro idea down on paper before I lost it ;)

heres the first idea I had for a scout:
Image

the glow is obviously the hearthstone or power source as it were, each side moves separately to enable it to turn, also used the gold and green colours

I like your concept but this is just what popped into my head, also your concept to me is quite organic... is that the kind of idea you want as in organic beings or are they meant to be very mechanically based

The ball thingy you made looks really cool too :D

Yes I would like them to be a bit organic, so they do not have a completely futuristic look. They should of course not look too organic, but they should have a twist of it. I think maybe 25 % organic and 75 % would be good, of course you cannot measure it like that but I hope you get what I mean. Also, especially the engravings are important in my opinion they give them the dungeon twist. If you look at the golden army character from hellboy 2 (the first pic in my last post), they also have allot of engravings, that really gives them a nice finish.

By the way how do you draw, what programs and hardware do you use? Do you have any good advice for coloring the figure. Normally when I make a sketch I start with the lines (only pencil, and equivalent when using digitizer) and when I am done I do not really know how to proceed with the coloring :S Do you have a layer for each color?

thanks,
I'll try and include a more organic feel in part on my next designs and I looked up the golden army as for some reason the first pictured just show a question mark (probs cos im using a mac with safari)

I use photoshop elements 4 and my bamboo graphics tablet :)
generally I sketch out my idea in very thin black in one layer, then I add a layer behind that and put all my basic colour on that such as the base gold and grey on the sphere image. I then added another layer when I added slight shading I just grab a slightly darker and lighter of each of the base colours and add it around edges as you can kind of see... on this one I then added another layer solely for the glowing green because I didn't know how it was going to turn out or what my exact idea was...

so my layers and order of completion:
black line drawing - done 1st
glowing green - fourth
shades of basic colours - third
basic colours - second

Ok nice, thanks :)

The image of the golden army was this one, if it works :S

I was thinking about getting a bamboo table at some point, it will get either the bamboo pen and touch or the bamboo fun (pen and touch). The bamboo fun in medium size (13.3" x 8.8" (338mm x 224mm)) is pretty expensive compared to the small size (9.8" x 6.9" (249mm x 175mm)). What size is yours?

Do you also have Ubuntu? If so does the bamboo work on Ubuntu?

The tablet/digitizer I have now is the Medion MD9570, but it does not work well on Ubuntu :S Only in Windows.

Hi again
this I based on the golden army although its not been perfected yet:
Image

my tablet is the bamboo fun medium but its the old version (like this one: http://media.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/re ... o_home.jpg );) I got it a while back and it came with a copy of photoshop and art rage but I only use photoshop really

sorry I have no idea about whether it works with ubuntu on the website it says - Compatibility: Windows® 7, Vista® or XP with Service Pack 2, Mac OS® X (10.4.8 or higher)

you might like to look at this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=312948

That looks very different from the new ones. What dimensions does it have? What size would you recommend the small 9.8" x 6.9" (249mm x 175mm) or the medium 13.3" x 8.8" (338mm x 224mm)?

The body might be somewhat too large compared with the legs

Hello Scribe, we already agreed on something along this lines:

Also Svend i cant modify the creature sticky.

Just to clarify, the general design guidelines are: have a hearthstone which is partly visible, golden metal body, engravings (we need to clarify their form, I will try to make some in Inkscape), greenish glow from the inside of the creature, some organic look to them so they do not look futuristic.

Also since we do not have a clear idea about which creatures should be in the construct faction, do not consider any concept art here for being final. We need to balance the available abilities compared to the other factions.

Hi that looks pretty cool, I like it :)
I might try some more in a bit... also just wanted to let you know, if you need any no-so-good concepts for other races I'd be happy to try my hand at some of them

Undead weak builder:
Image

I was thinking that the weak workers might not be specifically undead, but as the concept kind of shows, more like tortured slaves that are forced to work and not feed and are near death explaining their overall low stats

just an idea though ?? :)

well the new small size is about the same as my old medium in terms of the actual area you draw on and that size works well for me. However it really depends on how much and what for you use it, I use my occasionally but only for fun stuff myself or for a few little bits for other people but if you do a lot of drawing and you have a lot of drawing skill on paper then I would say it was worth while getting the medium. Obviously you need to be able to draw well on paper, I find it much harder to draw on the tablet than on paper.

Danimal {l Wrote}: Also, why dont make already a request to OGA asking for some models? they seem to have been having trouble coming up with challenges, and we can ask for models and give them the reference photos and/or descriptions, we may be surprised what people can come up using their originality.

May i remind you of this, if you want i can put myself the request on oga for the hero faction and manage everything. Shall i do it?

That would be nice. Though, maybe we should give it a week first to get contribution guidelines up to date again first.

Well, nothing has been added to the hero faction in a looong time. I think we could go with them already, and there a lot of reference material in the sticky to serve as guideline (to this faction only sadly).

Yeah that would be nice. Although we do not have concept art for the hero faction I guess it will still be fine as we have the mood pictures and the heroes are pretty generic. All contributions must be licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 Unported.

I think oln means the form for the contribution, i.e. license, and file formats.

By the way I got the Wacom Bamboo Fun Touch and Pen so I will be going crazy with concepts for the construct faction :) I am currently working on the Construct Scout, based on my previous concept that I uploaded here.

Ok, please tell me all requesites that would be needed to be made public on oga (just like the license stuff) so i can get ready a post there.

I think:
- license stuff
- Format: Blender 2.49 or 2.5
- Animations:
Atack x 2
Eat
Die
Rest (lying or sitting)
Walk

What else could be added?
