Oldschool Pseudo Transparency

What is the correct name of this half-way transparency trick used on the screenshots?

Also, remember some old CRT games alternating odd-even frames for transparency, although the frequency needs to be really high.

The person in that post also refers to it as dithering. I thought it was dithering as well.
