Hey there! Has anyone used Cafu 3D engine http://www.cafu.de/? It looks rather nice and has several features, like integrated map editor and lightmap generation for which I have longed for in FOSS engines. I am really wondering how does it work out in practice.

I never used it, but had a closer look at it some time ago.

It seems to be quite useable for FPS type games (yet not really better than Quake based engines, which also have good editors and lightmap tools).

It would have probably been used more often in game projects, if it wouldn't have been closed source during it's main development phase. It was just relatively recently open-sourced (1-2 years ago?) in what seemed a decision by the original developer to focus less on its development (aka "open-source dust bin") and thus interest has been low.

Well, the editor here reminds me a bit of UnrealEd, which I quite like. Right now I am testing it and it looks like it has some abysmal map building times, at least using the last official binary distribution for 32bit Windows (October 2011).

I know and like Cube 2, but I don't like how you can hardly build non axis aligned corridors. I sometimes want corridors aligned with the Allies or Comintern! LOL, sorry, too much Hearts of Iron III.
