for me, irc is good enough. So, well "other" as in "just irc". Otherwise, any sofware that can be built is ok (means, not python,no perl, no php, no web). But I'll adapt for my hosts :)

I think for now we have solved this topic ;)

There is a modern IRC webclient here: https://freegamedev.net/irc/ and the channels are also accessible through a XMPP gateway.

The IRC web client does not indicate what host/port/channel to use. Please fix it so that it does mention these things, in order to be able to connect to it if JavaScripts are disabled.

Not sure where you are looking, but it is clearly indicated on the landing page of the webclient as well as on the specific HTML only page that I have put on https://irc.freegamedev.net/

That link does mention it; that is good. However, the link on top for "Chat" does not link to that page, and neither does the link on message 102880, so it is a bit confusing that two different links are used.

The links to "chat" both here and on the new forums also mention it. Please use a fully functional webbrowser if it doesn't show it on your end (yes I mean with JS enabled) :p
