Planet feeds (and DevPlanet feeds too!)

Just noticed that Reddit also supports RSS (just add .rss behind the url). Any thoughts about adding for example https://www.reddit.com/r/opensourcegames/ to the planet?
Would give a lot of additional updates, but probably a lot of duplications as well...

If there are no substantial objections I will redirect the planet. and planetdev. subdomains to the new HubZilla based planets in a few days.

Pending DNS caching issues the planet & planetdev subdomains now redirect to the new Hubzilla based planets.

Ah, so that's why my RSS feed reader broke for the FGD feed :/

Are there any plans to provide Atom and/or RSS feeds for the planets? Because, like I said last year, I can't integrate whatever the hell this new-fangled thing is into my RSS reader...

The Hubzilla Atom feeds do not work?

You could also try the experimental alternative Friendica based Games Planet (sorry but we are currently experimenting with various options and the Hubzilla ones don't federate over ActivityPub well):
https://freegamedev.net/profile/planet
and for the Atom feed:

Huh, I didn't know these exist. They're not linked anywhere on https://social.freegamedev.net/pubstream.

The old http://planet.freegamedev.net/atom.xml URL 301s to https://social.freegamedev.net/channel/planetatom.xml, which is a 404.

Ah, okay, they are referenced on https://social.freegamedev.net/channel/planet / https://social.freegamedev.net/channel/devplanet. I'm too old for this kind of thing :P

But yeah, they seem to work. :)

To be honest, I would much rather have people use the actual federated AP feed instead of the one-way RSS feed... but if it works for you that's also fine :)

Just FYI: the pubstream is an aggregation of all the various channels on the server (I disabled the global pubstream that would also pull all sort of messages from other federated websites), just right now it is mainly populated by the planet channels as there aren't that many other users (The Pubstream also doesn't support Atom feeds).

You can now also join the #news channel on our new Mattermost based Team Chat and follow the Planets that way.

Sorry for messing up the RSS feeds in Hubzilla. Turns out the new queryworker addon does not play well with them (yet). I disabled it for now and aggregated RSS feeds are coming back up again.

So with Hubzilla 5.0 it would be possible to federate the planets via ActivityPub (Mastodon etc.), but to do it properly I would need to set up a separate channel for each feed before combining them in the planets again. Lots of work, but of course this would also mean that you could follow individual feeds instead of the aggregated planet. Maybe I'll get around doing it... but I do wonder how many people are actually using our plants these days...
Since I don't collect any metrics on my server (privacy issue) I have really no idea ;)

Hmm, the Hubzilla based planets have stopped updating about a month ago. Not sure what might be causing this, might be a Hubzilla bug?

I guess I might use this occasion to reorganize them as now there is a way to make them federate through ActivityPub as well, but it requires making a separate channel for each RSS feed, which is a lot of manual work to set up.

I guess I will first wait if I get some feedback on my bug report.
