Forum move to a new server

I plan to move the forum between 13.4. and 15.4. to a new server. If everything works out as planned, there will be very less downtime.
I will transparently redirect the traffic from the old server to the new one during DNS change.
On the new server HTTPS is possible although the first certificate is probably self signed or from a different domain. But this can be changed afterwards.

All other services like planet, ... will also move to a new server. Probably during the same time.

I will post in this thread is everything is done or anything happens :)

The move is still work in progress. Cleaning up the server and moving things took a little longer than expected. I changed the 2.4. to a 5.4. :)

The server move is nearly finished. Freegamedev.net services and one other thing is still open. A lot of the homepages on the machine needed adjustments because the php version on the old one is faaaaar do old. This took longer than expected.
So the freegamedev.net things will move in about a week (and next week I am on the QuoVadis/A Maze conference in Berlin, so no time to finish it earlier).

Forum is on a new server. There are still some bugs (missing avatar files). The other services are WIP.

Thanks a lot hagish. :)

Btw, I wanted to say that the login sequence now requires to login once. And then ask me to login again, and answer a question. Is that wanted?

Best regards,

Oh no, that was not intended. I will take a look at this.

I have the same problem than Bertram, it's a bit annoying.

The login captcha problem was caused by the redirect from the old to the new ip. I temporary disabled the "Maximum number of login attempts per IP address:" until the dns record gets the new ip. This should fix the problem.

The old server and temporary redirect is no offline and some of the external services (planet ...) are currently no reachable because they point to the old IP. Change is requested so it is just a matter of time :) until the services will be back online.

Redirect is back online until the domain change is done.

hagish {l Wrote}:Redirect is back online until the domain change is done.

I sorted this out last night and now planet.freegamedev.net is working again so I presume it worked for all domains.

Thanks for your efforts hagish! You guys are critical to the community!

Tnx :)

Oki so the redirects are now offline and the DNS entries work perfect.
So I can get rid of the old hardware.

Next step is a more correct https certificate.

Good work indeed, at times the old server seemed to slow down so this will hopefully help everyone, including the admins. :)

What kind of server is it?

It is a root server hosted by hetzner.de.

Intel Xeon E3-1245 Quad Core
32 GB DDR3 ECC RAM
2x 3 TB SATA III Enterprise HDD

But the webserver (where this forum is hosted) runs on a VM on this machine (2 CPUs 8 GB RAM)

We use hetzner where I work. Very good value.
