Julius {l Wrote}:The current style is already not very eye friendly, because the orange in the icon is only a few pixels wide.

Do you think it is not apparent enough that a forum contains new posts? I could add background color or add colored border(s) but I think it looks good now.

Arthur {l Wrote}:Will this theme be the default anytime soon?

I think the colors are lacking for that.

When I wrote this I was referring to the default stying (not the one by you) I have since switched to your style and it is great!

Hm. Since I assume that it could quite a time until I get some coloring help: Does anyone have objections against the "qsilver" style becoming the default look of the FreeGameDev Forums? (the other two would still be available. I would switch each user's settings to using this style, you will have to change back to another in ucp.php?i=165 -> "My board style"

It'd be great if you could bugtest the style too (just browse pages you would have never browsed before ;).

nekotaku/amuzen made a suggestion to change the header background color:
dark.png

I don't like this solution, but I see the sense of dimming the top (the white content is important, the darker top not as much). Maybe someone can get inspired by this to suggest something else?

I think it is fine as it is, if anything should be changed then maybe high-lighting the top links to the other projects.

I added a line under the links, goongsta-style yo. I don't want to highlight them more, since their highlighting not important, once the user knows they're up there.

I set the qsilver skin default. It is kind of weird in IE6 and I saw one margin bug in Iron (chromium fork) so far.
Remember that you can switch the skin in ucp.php?i=165!

I do not care about what colors the default theme has as I can always change it, BUT I would very much appreciate having a dark theme to choose from, as I often read these forums on my tv at night, and having to look at a 46 inch white screen is very unhealty for your eyes :S

A dark theme in the style of the Alientrap forums would be a nice option :)

Or like the Xonotic forums, which are also nice :)

Guys, I won't mind if you tell me that it's horrible and ugly if you can at least give a hint what to try to make it better :)

Well it is pretty good, but there is too much white here (see picture)

Also to pep it up a bit you could choose some contrasting colors for the text compared to the background, say a darkish orange or something, try some combinations and show pics, I think mostly it has good readability. But it is a bit boring, but that is much better than having poor readability. I will try it out a bit more when it becomes dark :)

Also maybe a bit of gradient would be cool :) I like the shiny look of: http://forums.xonotic.org/ and http://forum.alientrap.org/

Edit: 500 :)

You asked for feedback, but you do not seem to be using it :P (above attached picture should still be fixed at least)

Edited it a little:
1. everything is a few shades darker
2. light areas fixed. please report (buttons are known light areas. report if unreadable buttons)

I won't do gradients. I can't. It's a genetic thing :)

Impressions? The plain text font should be lighter probably.

Then lower the button colors a bit also.

I think we can give you a gene cure to fix that problem. I think a little color on some stuff might be a good idea. Make the mouse hover highlight of threads a different color than gray, say a dark-blue or dark-red, right now it has the same color as one of the two colors that each thread is in the listings.

Nope, if anything it could be a tat darker, say 16 values down (in 255 rgb range)

buttons: will try to get to them eventually and probably those horrible default edit/quote/etc links (oh how I hate image for text tasks.. but I wasn't able to replace the images with text :( )

highlight color: will do!

darker font: I'm skeptical. I'll have to do a comparison after all.

note for me: membership setting list title

It seems that the current skin is buggy in Firefox on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, the quote buttons are missing :S (see the attached picture)

Thanks, also for the screen! Can you please test the bright skin as well?

Sorry for my inactivity regarding the skin. In the worst case I won't start working on it again until September, again thanks for the reports though!

Here the buttons show up in Firefox 3.6.7, Opera 10.60 and Chromium Nightly, I am using Ubuntu 10.04 x86 though.

EDIT: I'd like to add the "Online" thingy you see when posters are online stands out, can't decide whether I like it this way.
