For security reasons I disabled the email functionality of the forum.

Very sorry for the inconvenience.

Is this due to the MyEmail saga?

Yes.

Possible solution: add warnings that your address will be visible to receive when you write or reply to them and also that might be a good place to write "don't feed trolls". :)

If you want the feature to be enabled soon, bump this thread so I will get to it. :)

I am not sure I get the problem. Why not just block the offending e-mailer if you get one on your back? Surely that must be possible.

What are the reasons not to use the normal PM feature of phpBB?

We encourage openness, Crendgrim. Either a conversation is fine out in the open on the forum, or you can do it over email in private.

What are the reasons for using the PM feature? That's a better question.

+1 for charlie.

This forum is about open source games. So the openness of discussing them is inherent.

To transmit an email or instant messaging address to initiate private conversations. Or have private conversations without those additional tools.
While PMs are rarely necessary, they might still be of use sometimes.
Allowing others to email you directly through the forum seems unnecessary however.

Private Messaging system

Postby MCMic » 24 Jan 2012, 09:01

I know this have been said before, but why the PM system is not here anymore?
It's not the first time it's bugging me, I need to contact someone on the forum, I can't.
I have to search for his pseudo/name/project over the web and try to find an account on some website that allow private messaging or mailing (sourceforge most of the time), and I don't know if he got the message or not.

It's back on. I attached a "do not feed trolls and spam" signature.
