Probably the best open-source gaming news of this year:
The massive and quite well received 4x/RTS space empire simulator Star Ruler 2 has been released under the terms of the MIT license, with art assets of the main game and the DLC (minus the music) under the CC-by-NC. While the later is not perfect from a FOSS perspective, this is a full free game in the end. Edit: note the small capital "f" ;)

See the announcement here:

Lets hope the source is not an unmaintainable mess ;)

Edit: if you want to discuss the art license, please do so here: https://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8028

Someone seems to be making progress on getting it work with cmake and SDL2:

Apparently also with the plan to port it to Android.
