Hello Forum, I am Nahuel and i am here to show you A Dark Place...

About


ADP is a first person-survival horror game with focus in exploration, puzzles and stealth. Our inspiration are games like Penumbra series, Scratches and Amnesia. The game is powered by darkplaces engine.

Tech info and tools


We are using darkplaces engine (yeah :) ). The game will be avaible fopr LINUX and Windows (I am on linux), port to mac is possible but we do not have a mac to test it. we are using q3bsp for maps. The maps are made using QUARK and q3map2. I am not a real modeller, but I made some static models props in blender. Texture edition is done using GIMP. Sounds edition is done using audacity.

Required Help


- Spanish-English translator: A dark place has a lot of texts to read!! some texts are complex, so we need someone to read fluent Spanish and can write English ( literary level required, technical or colloquial skill are useless).
- 3d artist : With experience in blender, obj and / or md3 formats.
- 3d animator: with experience in blender, IQM, dpm or md3 formats

Saw your WIP over at InsideQC, looks really promising.

Have you given a VR version using the Cardboard/GearVR port of Darkplaces a thought?

For 3D modelling, what kind of assets are required?

We do not have phone, so CardboardVR support is not in our plans. ADP will be gpl, so someone can add CardboardVR support can do it :)

Old style and realistic industrial props, forniture, thrash and rusty garbage, some weapons, v-hands-weapons and some enemies.

Don't go overboard with the art requirements regarding weapons and enemies. There is a very high "expectation" bar on that, which is almost impossible to fulfil.

Get a nice axe (no v-hands models needed) and find a way to make that an interesting to use weapon. Here are two good freely licensed axe models:

P.P.S.: For VR: well that is a pity as making a VR "port" later on is often not possible due to design choices in the game that make it difficult to play in VR (quick movements for example).

Not really, i see many quake, half life, etc... mods with nice monsters there... when I talk about md3 I mean low poly work. there are many artists that can do the work ;) (aniway i do not know about this forum) Anyway, if i can not find good resources-colaborators we will make the game. We already have some models and monsters, but that media come from other projects,(the license is privatiive, but is our licensed media). WE will apply GPL only to code if we can hand good gpl media.

Why not CC licenses? CC0/CC-by is perfectly compatible with the GPL, and CC-by-SA 4.0 is one way compatible, meaning it is ok to merge with GPL licensed assets as well.
