ReTux

ReTux is a 100% libre software and 100% libre culture action platformer loosely inspired by the Mario games, utilizing the art assets from the SuperTux project. The name "ReTux" is a play on the words "redux" and "Tux".

Although ReTux re-uses the art assets of SuperTux, no code from SuperTux is used in ReTux. The software portion of ReTux is entirely new, written in Python and based on the SGE Game Engine.

Slight tweak to the contest:

https://savannah.nongnu.org/forum/forum ... um_id=8551

I've added that judges (including me) will include a short written explanation for the ratings.

Also, I think this might be worth mentioning: I'm planning, on a personal note, on doing let's plays of submitted levels.

So, out of curiosity: is anyone interested in entering?

A new announcement regarding ReTux and the contest has been made:

https://savannah.nongnu.org/forum/forum ... um_id=8558

So, two things other than the bugfix release: first, the demo version is no longer available. However, second, anyone who announces participation in the level editing contest before June 20 can now get a free (gratis) copy of ReTux. More information about this can be found in the original contest announcement post:

Is ReTux on Steam? Or Desura? You might have more success at getting payments by going that route; a platform that everybody uses.

At the moment I imagine you don't get many contributions. Why would somebody pay for it when they can get SuperTux free or (if they are suitably inclined) compile it themselves? You need to get on a platform with a large player base of people happy to pay for things along with the benefits of that platform i.e. with Steam it'll be Steam Cloud support etc.

It's not on Steam yet, but I'll be putting it on Steam when the 1.0 is released. (I'll have to pay the fee they charge, but it's not terribly huge.) I think I'll wait until then before considering Desura, too, because I've found Desura to be a pain to deal with.

There's one place it's already on, though: itch.io.

I've cut the price of the digital download down to $1.99 (regardless of where you order from, which can be through FastSpring, itch.io, or Gamejolt).

I've also made a new release, which turned out to have a pretty major bug, so I then made another release:

New bugfix release:

More significantly, I figured out a way to get Steam Greenlight's screenshot uploader to work (disable all my add-ons), so there is now a Steam Greenlight submission for ReTux. It can be found here if you're interested:

This is a huge announcement: ReTux is now available to the public without charge, coinciding with the new Patreon page I have launched. Or put another way, it's now both free as in speech and as in beer. :)

https://savannah.nongnu.org/forum/forum ... um_id=8835

I have just launched a Patreon page to hopefully serve as a new source of funding for all of my game development activities. That Patreon page can be found here:

https://www.patreon.com/onpon4

Coinciding with this, I have decided that it's time to unencrypt ReTux to make way for this new funding model. ReTux is now available to the public without charge. You can download it, unencrypted, in the Download page:

http://retux.nongnu.org/download.html

If you enjoy ReTux or any of the other games I work on, please consider supporting my Patreon page. Every dollar helps make a little more libre game development possible. :)

I don't know what you have against CloudFlare. Forgot about this. It's just a CDN. My mistake, CloudFlare is actually a reverse proxy. Very different. What you should be concerned about is the fact that it requires JavaScript. The reason I'm using Patreon despite that is there isn't a better option right now.

If you want to get around that, you can donate to my public Bitcoin address:

That article you linked to is actually a good point. I forgot about that one. (There still isn't a better choice out there, though, other than direct donations.)

But regarding uMatrix and cookies, Tor Browser doesn't include uMatrix or block cookies from the start. And if you're using Tor, you should only do so with an unmodified, unextended Tor Browser; changes to settings or new add-ons can add to your fingerprint, which defeats the purpose of using Tor.

Awesome news - I hope that many users will consider supporting your Patreon and that you'll still get some income from it. But I'm quite happy to be able to package this nice game for the users of my distro :) If not done already, you could probably add a link to your Patreon in the main menu, to encourage players to check it out and maybe support your work.

That's an interesting idea to look into. That would be a nice thing to have in Hexoshi, too.

Yesterday I tested ReTux. I like it really much so far, even if I am no fan of the jump'n'run genre.

I would like to contribute a german localization if you are interested?
