qubodup {l Wrote}:MCMic: at the top of this post, I quoted your initial aims. Are all of them satisfied? Or is there something to be done? Are there new aims?

What is satisfying is that all datas are now free and most of them looks good.
What is not is the "coherent" aim, some datas does not mix very well with each other. But maybe it's a nicer story this way, with a lot a datas coming from several sources, than if an artist had made brand new data for the whole game.

What could be done would be network playing, I once began to develop it, but never finished the job.
Joystick support might be a good idea too, it's not the case if I recall correctly.

qubodup {l Wrote}:MCMic: do you have an idea for an icon? Does anybody else have any?

No, I have no idea about the icon.
I don't like the one svenskmand did because of that "coherent" thing I was talking about.
I'm not sure about the four blocks one, it won't make players test the game.

I've done some uploads here : https://github.com/MCMic/freesiege/downloads
And a Aur package is available here : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22012

Any icon would be probably better than no icon at all.

Here's another try. I think using the blocks is the best choice, because this is a 'block' puzzle game and the blocks are representative of the game both in gameplay and look. Just like a card is representative of a card game or a chess piece is representative of chess.

The icons that were used for the blocks, http://opengameart.org/content/magic-an ... face-icons now have psd source files (can be edited in gimp). Thanks for lazy_bum of #freegamer for converting!

Back from the dead!
Sorry I kinda just left guys and this is not me returning, I've just got loads of school work and revision so generally I have no time for anything else,
however I've just got out of hospital so I have no school work for a while so I manage to fit in some time for you guys:
quick concept for a logo
uses:
P0ss's sword and shield model: http://opengameart.org/content/sword-and-shield
and Skorpio's Castle image: http://opengameart.org/content/tower-4-damaged-versions
also uses a microsoft font as I don't have the exact font you used for the Free Siege Menu Title so I just used this one, therefore this is just a concept... hope you like it, sorry I won't be sticking around but if you send me the font file your using I can edit this, or I'll upload a psd format to OGA so you can edit it or whatever you want if you like it

If graphics from the game would be used (the tower is not used in the game), the icon would be more representative of the game.

I attached a preview for different resolutions.

I would suggest more saturated, brighter colors and less shading, as it mosly just creates noise at low rez.

MCMic: any feedback welcome. I would like if you simply used my previous icon suggestion, as it indicates that colors/symbols are important and has the game's identity (just chess pieces represent chess and a mine or colored numbers represent minesweeper or a block-L shape represents tetris for example)

It would need art from the game and the remarks qubodup did are good ones too.

Qubodup: about Icons, I prefer the first one you made with the four blocks.
What would I need to do? Include the image file on the svn and in the download files? Does it need to have specific name? resolution? I'll also add it as window icon with SDL I guess.

I checked https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31592 , where somebody made the icon definition stuff for me to include.
So the important part regarding icons is
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
  install -Dm644 fallofimiryn.png "$pkgdir/usr/share/icons/"
  install -Dm644 fallofimiryn.desktop "$pkgdir/usr/share/applications"

and the .desktop text file should consist of
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
[Desktop Entry]
Name=FreeSiege
GenericName=An intense tetris-like wargame
Version=1
Type=Application
Categories=Game;
Icon=freesiege.png
Exec=freesiege
Encoding=UTF-8
Terminal=false

Does this help?

Version 1.1 is version 1.0 + icon for the game.
The source package is on github and the aur package has been updated.

I also got the rights on the sourceforge project in order to update the website.
