Ahh, also nice... I have some pixel art for a castle too... so I will see it that fits even better. Otherwise we will be using this one I guess.

This one fit really well, and it correspond to the image I put behind the main menu, so I would like to keep it.

Ok with the backdrop it looks better I think.

Hmmm ok, but it doesn't fit as well to the rest of the background. I mean the menu doesn't have to look like the game does it?

Not really, but I really like my castle sprite, why do you want to change it ^^

You better give me your background images and their licenses, and also please find me a pretty cloud sprite :-D

Neither castle towers fit in with the styling of the rest of the art. They need to be more "pixely" and cartoonish. Everything else is looking really nice though :)

Any chance you could provide a binary so I can try this game out? Looks interesting, and it reminds me of puzzle fighter :)

I'm waiting for some answers from the original authors of the images before any release.
I want to be sure the licenses I use are correct.

And I'll wait to have replaced all datas before a release I think, because the remaining datas are non-free, even maybe illegal.

Meh, attempted to make the tower more "pixely" but didn't really succeed (or well, I made it more pixely, but also a lot uglier :P )

Maybe have a go with these:
http://opengameart.org/content/16x16-castle-tiles
This was my plan... but if you want to try it. I am a bit busy with other stuff right now, so it might take a while until I actually find the time to make a different castle. For now I guess I will finish the background, and see how far this makes the characters from wesnoth look better.

The main reason I asked was that if I liked the game I would consider contributing some artwork for you :)

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit :) I tried the build on the sourceforge page, but I was very buggy and I could not enable the computer player so I did not get to try the game for real :( But from what I saw it looked interesting :)

I don't have any 64bits.
Why don't you try to compile it?

It would be that in console :
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
git clone git://github.com/MCMic/freesiege.git
cd ./freesiege
cmake .
make
./freesiege

(first step will need internet and take some time)
Third command might tell you you need to install additional packages.

the package of SDL, SDL_TTF, SDL_MIXER and OPEN_GL for developpement.
For example libsdl1.2-dev, libsdl-mixer1.2-dev, ...
search in synaptic for the good packages. (I'm not sure which one is good for opengl)

I have now installed the packages libsdl1.2-dev, libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev and it compiled and worked :) So if anybody else is wondering how get this thing running then do
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake git libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev
git clone git://github.com/MCMic/freesiege.git
cd freesiege
cmake .
make
./freesiege

and the game should run :)

The game works, and it seem you only need some graphics for the Ram and the Marion, and then some background graphics. Also the music is not really suitable for this game as it is sort of medival and the music is not.

I will see if I can make the Ram. Is the Marion finished? I might also give the background and clouds a try :) very nice game :)

Regarding the music then I found something on Jamendo that is CC-BY-SA which might fit the game much better, the artist is called Axis Mundi Actum and it sounds very medival, you might be able to use some of it in the game :)

Also have you considered using the mouse to play instead of the keyboard? Then you could swap with the left mouse button and verify with the right.

Another thing: the dragon chosen on the tiles is not the same as the one going toward the enemy, you should use the one in wesnoth-1.9.0/attic/units instead, as it is the same as on the tiles.

I'll see what I can do for mouse playing, it seems possible, but not particulary interesting. Plus it would be unfair, only one player can play with mouse! (or should-I made the game multi-touch compliant? xD)

The game miss the ram icon, and animations and sprite for almost all units. Only the plant, the dragon and the golem has been replaced. Marion is finished. (I think)

I'll listen to your music and see if it fits. I like the actual one but something medieval could fit the game better.

Not if you play through network :)

Okay, so we'll see that after I implement network playing :D

Does the system support rendering PNGs with alpha channels instead of BMP's? I was experimenting with the backgrounds, especially the clouds but the pink color does not work well when using gradient opacity.

No, but I think I'll change that. I'll use SDL_Image so I can use PNG with alpha channel, because pink background is annoying to manipulate and does not allow gradient opacity, like you said.

But I need some time to do that ^^

Now you can :-) (just use "git pull" in your folder to update your files, then you can redo cmake ., make and launch the game)

The images for the menu and some sprites are already converted into pngs (the menu grass is ugly, through)

Just quickly want to mention that I have some time to work on the background again now, and will probably give you a final version in the next few days.
