Help convince Coroner to GPL TrueCombat:CQB

See here: http://www.truecombatelite.com/forums/v ... 028#p31028

It's currently a more or less dead closed source mod for Wolf:ET, but the creator is considering putting it under GPL and releasing it as standalone with ET:Legacy ( http://www.etlegacy.com/ ) as a source base.

I will then decide whether I finally GPL CQB source code, too.

Convince me. The only reason for me against it is that CQB still offers a so complete and rich weapon simulation. Though I probably never have the time to commercially exploit it, even if there would be anybody willing to pay for it.

(Notice the really nice weapon handling)

Disclamer: If you try to convince, PLEASE be positive and very supportive about it... no point in demanding anything and that community (and Coroner himself) has sadly a very long track-record of argueing against open-sourcing the game, thus this is a big step for them to consider it. So again PLEASE be gentle and maybe offer to contribute to a Indigogo/Kickstarter or such.

Small update:
http://www.truecombatelite.com/forums/v ... 3&start=60

Seems like they will open some parts for now, and depending on how everything goes maybe the rest also at a later point.

Personally I don't agree that this is the best way about doing it, but at least there is a good possibility that it will be really open-source at some point.

:o

I thought TC:E and CQB had been dead for good two, three years. If it happens that either gets a resurrection, that'd be awesome.

The main dev has decided to use original GPL source code release of W:ET instead of ET: Legacy. It is sad because merging our two projects would benefit everyone. We could use their community and artists and we would try our best to solve any bugs resulting from their move to our engine. Now they will have to duplicate a lot of work already done by us.

From what Coroner said, no part of the TrueCombat:CQB mod is actually going to be open-sourced, but they will develop open-source engine side in parallel.
