Hi

I would like inform the people about the BGE_AirRace game / sim demo, which I made with Blender 3D.

The track is based to the Red Bull Air Race Barcelona track

Few ingame videos

To view the linked files on below requires a Blender 3D version 2.49b installation.

This is the mouse controlled version for the general flying:

If you have at least 3-axis joystick, then your ready for the race flying ;)

For the joystick set-up .blend:

Hello there,

By posting the .blend file you provided the source, but would you also settle for a free software license and include its text in a text file in the blender files?

About the game: Interesting, the video looks like fun, but the mouse controls are horrible (for me, perhaps probably because I use mouse acceleration in the OS). I wasn't successful trying to use my xbox360 controller to fly :)

I also get errors:

{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
Python script error from controller "JOYSTICKS1#CONTR#1":
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "JOYSTICKS", line 47, in <module>
KeyError: 'value = gameOb[key]: KX_GameObject, key "gc_c" does not exist'
but the game keeps running at least :)

Hi

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm not familiar with these licences at all. Any help with this?

Yes, the mouse control was pretty sensitive. I made a a new version, which have tad less sensitive mouse. Also the error is fixed now.

Thank you for your advance.

By choosing an open source license, you allow anybody to change and use your game's source code. You can chose between "If you change it, you have to make it open source too!" (GPL) and "Do what you want!" (For example zlib license).

If the game's art is made by you, you can also license them under for example by-sa, which will allow other artists to modify it and games (or other projects) to use it.

Note that being open source also means allowing commercial use.

Hi

I have a small one man air race game/sim hobby project, made with the Blender Game Engine, which is a standard part of the free Blender software.

The main menu screen:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_Ai ... main_s.png

The BGE_AirRace game play
The game is related to the Red Bull Air Racing.

The game play is straight forward. Fly two laps solo race as fast as you can, and avoid the time penalties.

The track
Yes, the track just reminds the Red Bull Air Race Barcelona track...
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_AirRace/TMR_s.png

The track in download game is 50% bigger than real life track.

You can see a some real action on these dev. state films:
1.5:1 test track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYDfISes8xU
1:1 test track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7422m-zrRUo

The game is saving after successful race the result .csv file, which includes gate-by-gate 'flight recorder' data with possible penalties:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_Ai ... tboard.png

Installation
Just unzip the zip file where ever you want.
NOTE!
At least three axis joystick is needed.

Playing
Start the game with BGE_AirRace_a002.exe.
Configure your HOTAS and save, which is creating a txt file with your configuration.
Check the Track & Rules
And RACE!

The Viewing
A classic numpad key viewing system.

The BGE_AirRace download link (17M zip):
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_Ai ... o_a002.zip

Your comments and critics are most welcome.

Best Regards

(edit2)
The .exe file is compiled with standard Blender installation 'Save Game As Runtime...' function.

You can find a source .blend file here:
http://fdm4bge.1g.fi/Files/10001/BGE_Ai ... a002.blend

Cool! You should include the info that it is GPLed in the credits in the next release! :)

I currently use following keyboard

So I looked at keayboard.py wersdfxcv for input, but couldn't figure it out. If somebody can give me a hint how to start, I'm all ears! :)

Well, usually I would write something like this (look at the == License == section)

Basically write
Unless otherwise noted in this file (see below), everything is Copyright
(C) 2010 by YOURNAMEHERE and available under the terms of the GNU General Public
License of the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License,
or (at your option) any later version.

And then for all the files, that are taken from somewhere else/made by somebody else but you, mention it, give a link to where you got it and tell what license it is under.
