It's a wonderful idea. For red eclipse I tried to change the parameters of weapons that they were close to realism. Here's a link to the configuration variables http://camper.narod.ru/download/re/rac4.cfg .
Models can take to start from open sources, such as: http://www.md2.sitters-electronics.nl/
also quadropolis.us
May try to interest developers assaultcube reloaded http://acr.victorz.ca/ ?
Openarena positioning itself as a game with open resources and were examples models transfer of it in the cube 2. Beret very good model http://openarena.wikia.com/wiki/Beret

Naa, there are actually much better resources than that, but this project is on hold for now.

I am actually hoping that True Combat: CQB will be open-sourced at some point (currently this is being discussed, but the main author remains slightly skeptical sadly), and then that would be the much better project to contribute to.

Alternatively one could probably look into making a mod for Unvanqished, or base this game on the Octaforge engine once that has sufficiently stabilized in development.

people started the project http://reclip.victorz.ca/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/reclip/
My work does not belong to them, but I am very happy. I updated the config: http://camper.narod.ru/download/re/rac6.cfg

Ahh, interesting. Seems to be equally dead as this attempt though. And I never really intended to use RE as a base. They should really look into Octaforge as an alternative.

Just a short heads-up:
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/forum/v ... =6&t=46940
Seems like they plan to go fully open-source after all.
