Missions: Into The Unknown

Missions: Into The Unknown

What Is This Project?
It is a game using Blender 3D featuring a robot that has landed on an alien planet. The robot decides to rid the planet of a species called The Seen which has been overriding the civilization of the Unknown.
We plan to have multiple levels, some cut-scenes and in later versions an unlock system.

What Do We Want?
Right now anyone can give us textures. I will supply a list.
Music and sound FX.
Levels once I am finished with the level template.
Note: everything must be under Creative Commons or GNU GPL.

Our Website?
Sorry we don't have one at the moment. I'm working on that.

Screenshots?
With pleasure:

Meadshot.png

Metroshot.png

I'll have some source soon.

What licenses do you use?
Why don't you make your repository publicly readable or mirror it on sf.net?

Creative Commons 3.0
GNU GPL 2

Love to. But unfortunately we (being me and my brother) need permission from our parents. If anyone on Sourceforge were to take our files and host them we would be delighted. It's always good to have your stuff downloadable.

Be nice to have a forum too but I can do with out that.

Thanks for explaining the situation!

Hero {l Wrote}:Creative Commons 3.0

There are actually 6 current Creative Commons licenses. Have you picked one?

Hero {l Wrote}:Love to. But unfortunately we (being me and my brother) need permission from our parents.

I take it they didn't want to give permission or you didn't want to ask.
Google Code might not require parental consent. At least I can't find anything with "age" or "year" in http://code.google.com/projecthosting/policy.html and http://www.google.com/accounts/TOS

Hero {l Wrote}:Be nice to have a forum too but I can do with out that.

Reddit allows creating "subreddit"s, which are more or less like forums-mailing list hybrid. They allow usage by users the age of 13+, apparently without parental consent.

CC BY 3.0: Sorry I keep forgetting the BY. Could be fatal so I should practice.

I'm not talking legally. They put their own restrictions.

13-. Is it fine if I use this thread (not a true forum but enough for people to give us contribs)?

Yes, but it's quite inconvenient to use this forum for hosting. Is there any way your legal guardians would agree to you having access to a convenient way to share your files (for example using google code)?
There's an own community for blender games by the way: http://gameblender.org

You packed cutscene1.blend1 and cutscene1.blend2, which makes for about 13MiB. I don't know much about Blender - aren't these files backups?

Author/license information seems to be missing, except for the "(sintel)"-style file prefixes, which are a start for people who know what the projects are and what their license is...

Here is a mirror of the version you provided, without the .blend1 and .blend2 files (hope that wasn't a mistake):

Will do some but don't expect good results. We have a deal with a friend that we'll make his game and he'll get his father to make our website.

Thanks. Will look into + ask.

Yes they are backups. I thought I removed them all but it appears not.

Music in either of the following two formats:

Wave audio (.wav)

OGG Vorbis Audio (.ogg)

Must be under 20 mb.

Once we have a level template up and running we'll want some levels.

Good ideas.

(Note: If you have a website you can give out files for free there if attributed to FRPZ: Team Neon.)

There may be other things. Give us stuff you think we need and we'll put our brains to it.

Things I would be MORE than happy to help with:

Music
Level Design
Character Design!!!
Concept Art
Basically designing stuff in general

Do you have a fully detailed story for the game yet? And what about designs for the characters / aliens and levels?

Most importantly before I get to work:

What is the MOOD of the game? (It seems like the kind of game that could be really dark and creepy but cartoony at the same time. I this fits the most.)

Everything you've said is right.

Many inventors from Vaucanson to da Vinci have imagined mechanical beings serving man. All of these have failed... miserably. But one inventor is trying again... and again... and again.

Many of the Inventor's attempts have also failed. But he is making progress. A few of his creatures have worked. He is on the verge of creating his masterpiece... when the enemy strikes.

The Inventor decides to load all of his memories onto his latest creation... And send his creation to outer space...

That night The City fell and the space pod moved through outer space.

The robot lands on the planet Unknown. He finds out about the Seen and sets out to destroy them.

Music: I currently create the music but we require more than my junk. So yes please.

Level design: As soon as we finish the level template you may get to work. In the future (like in the website future) we will also have add-on download so make as much as you want.

Character Design: We have already completed the robot. If you could create a female seen that looks like [screenshot 1] and an inventor that would help us alot. Also if you could do character animation for the robot we'll be delighted.

Concept art: You may but we make the final decisions we may not use the stuff.

Just a question. Do you know how to use Blender. It is the game engine and modeller we use and all our exports will be in it until the final release.

And what OS do you use? You could make some versions for Windows or Mac OSX for us.

female_seen_ref_1.png
This is the female seen concept and reference image. Note: the male seen which look much different and are rather stupid. The females are the smart (and hard to beat) ones.

Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about modeling or coding :( But could try basically anything else you want. I use Mac OSX.

From what i can see from your picture, does that mean the seen can climb well? So they would possibly drop down out of dark ceilings to attack you?

Also regarding music, I will probably upload the previews in mp3 format, so I don't need to export my music to .ogg every time to upload. i will export the final versions into .ogg. I am making a preview of some music right now.

Possibly some creepy twist in the story could be added as well. Like you find out that the seen are like mutant/diseased versions of the unknown civilization, or something like that.

Also, I couldn't help doing some seen concept art. So here you are: ;)

Ready to be astonished?

A shame. Try Wikibooks (Blender 3D:Noob To Pro, Beyond Blender Render) for some tuts.

Yes they can climb but you won't see them at it. Just they will drop on you.

Go ahead. You may also upload in .wav which is the preferred Blender sound format but that is not necessary.

Infected? Guess what! That is EXACTLY the story I have.

Your art. Great. I think we'll try something in between our two versions however as that will be too high-polly.

Great minds think alike I guess! :D

I have a preview of the type/style of music I personally think fits with the game, so let me know what you think and keep in mind it's not finished yet. Also, the music in game will probably change a lot, like some music will sound very ambient and creepy, and other music like in battles will be more fast paced.

Yes that music is good. Maybe some improvements but that is your choice. I may not use it for intro/menu but for another part of the game but we are still deciding.

Could you make an industry themed piece? My original was too big and though I like it it has to go.

Also we need a config piece. That is unless you like my attempt:

Hero: I recommend you use .flac for sharing lossless music files or at least put them in a .zip or .7z.

Hero and OzoneOne: I also recommend that for single data files you use http://opengameart.org/ as a host.

OzoneOne: I Quite like your track as well. How did you make it?

qubodup {l Wrote}:How did you make it?

I just use garageband, however I never use any Apple Loops, I use a keyboard instead.

I can't upload the finished Title Screen music because it's over 15 MB (16.1 MB) and compressing it makes it 15.5 MB. help anyone?

Hero, I would definitely help me a lot if you told me the complete story of the game from beginning to end, the levels there are so far, and exactly what has already been/not been done.
Also, are there any gameplay videos anywhere? It would also make it easier for me if I could see the pace that the game takes, what the environments are like while playing, that sort of thing. I can then base my music off that as well.

No... you may just need to do a bit in the music to make it slightly smaller.

Try multiple formats and then compress them. See which is the smallest.

.ogg works fine!

This music was made with the title screen in mind. It might not fit with menus and stuff though, I could make a different piece for that. :)
I'm pretty sure this is the finished version.

EDIT: Attachment deleted. This isn't the finished version, there's a newer one.

Alright for the new version. BTW we keep a record of your compositions for this game and will pick some of them. We may not pick the latest version in some cases if deemed fit by the team.

This game won't have a progression system for version 1. However in "The Big One" it will be the first in a long line of different levels. It was rated by our tester (my brother) to be at difficulty medium. It is an industrial area with grey buildings rising out a toxic sea. There are generators powered by the toxic ocean and multiple odd objects. It is in the third screenshot at the top of this page.
