Gluon Alpha "X-Ray" Released, finally! :)

We have FINALLY got to the point where Gluon is so usable that we'd like to show it to the world, and that, specifically, means the people in the free game development world :) So... With no further ado: http://amarok.kde.org/blog/archives/117 ... ed!-D.html Yay! :)

Here it's what's look like official page:

http://gluon.gamingfreedom.org/

About it (from that page):
The Gluon project is an open framework for creating and distributing games - supporting the flow of the idea all the way from the author to the player of the finished game. The primary use of Gluon is to create games using 2D graphics. The reasoning behind this is that the niche for this type of visual is very large and so far untapped by specialised tools. In the world of 3D games there are solutions such as Unity3D, which provide a distribution system, but in the 2D game development world there are no tools to provide a complete eco system for both the creation, distribution and feedback gathering.

They are planning to make it crossplatform - at least gluon player. Gluon creator will require kde.

I've quickly scanned documentation. And it looks that scripting will be done with javascript.

Thanks for the quick round up there, Michael! That's indeed the official home page :)

Requiring KDE does not make Creator not cross-platform, we aim to have packages for both Windows and MacOS X as well as the various libre Unices out there :) But yes, the libraries (and gluon player) won't require the KDE libraries to be installed anyway, to appease the more puritan of our potential users :)

Yup, the scripting is JavaScript based, specifically using the QtScript system - nicely powerful, according to various benchmarks also quite fast, and importantly it's universally available (that is, available on every platform where Qt itself runs, no interpreters needed, making it all that much easier to distribute).

Again, thanks for the round-up there, nicely concise :)

Oh alright then ;) There's only one game built with GluonEngine for now, though, our little Space Invaders clone :) The news here is that you now /can/ make games with Gluon Creator ;)

Image would be the Invaders game shown in Creator, and Image is the same game being played using Gluon Player :)
