That's my newest project at work from september 2009. I would really appreciate any comment about the game/homepage!!
It's a completely free offline 3D RPG and 100% open source.

http://www.thegoldencoin.do.am

My big goal is to create a large community about the game. Almost 1600 downloads so far :)

Hello and welcome!

It's cool to see a single-player game in progress that uses a Cube2-based engine.

Is your game itself however open source? If you made changes to the engine, are they available? Can one re-distribute your game or even re-use your assets for their own games?

Hi, thanks for your welcome.

As you probably know the Sauerbraten engine is open source.
If the engine is open source I have no choice to set my version(based on sandbox platinum arts) also open source(focused on RPG).
Currently the editor isn't stable. You can try to edit by open ingame the console with "\" and enter "edittoggle".(but at your own risk :D )

Hey Damiandj, awesome that you've decided to Open Source TGC, I've always been interested in it, but no source or linux port has prevented me from being able to check it out :(

I do have question though:

Where do you provide the source? If your project is open source, then the source has to be available somewhere :) You can use a site like SourceForge to host your project, and then you no longer have to use MediaFire (I cant access it in my country either, another reason why I can't check out TGC ) to store all your files and stuff, and get more people to help out with your project

Wow this looks good!
I hope we see a linux version soon too, at least as sourcecode! I really want to try it.

Here is the base source code of the engine: http://www.svn.kids.platinumarts.net/32pas32/trunk/ (you can use tortoise)

The Golden Coin uses a very modificated version and other libraries. The source code isn't available for the moment, but it will be with the next release v0.300 :D

Ah, k. Which libraries do you use, and where do you plan to host the source?

About hosting, the easiest way to go about this is to get a http://code.google.com/hosting/createProject project going and upload the source there. :)

The TGC libraries are custom maded :)

I have already a svn repository here: http://svn.kids.platinumarts.net/thegoldencoin/
It will be available to the public very soon...

I can't see anything but the effect, so there's not much to say ;)

The model looks familiar, from Eisenstern, right?

Perhaps http://opengameart.org/content/2d-bars might be a nice basis for alternative healt/mana/xp bars. (here's what I have in mind: http://opengameart.org/content/blood-red-health-bar )

I think the last time I downloaded TGC, I couldn't find build instructions for linux.

Please tell if there are any and I just missed them!

There isn't, unfortunately. I tried seeing if the Sandbox build system would work, but they pulled out the entire networking stack, so it doesn't.

I think they use VisualStudio to do their builds, looking in the windows source directory.

DamianDJ has said that they "included custom libraries" that would somehow make it hard to compile on linux, but T7G and I've looked at the source and it only seems to be CubeScript, which should be platform independant.. Someone with some CMake fu should be able to get it running on Linux in no time

FINALLY: The brand new release 0.300 is coming on the 7th of June for free to everyone!!!

The golden coin has been downloaded more then 2000 times!!! That's really awesome for this work in progress versions. Finally the new v0.300 is knocking on the door ;-). The main feature of v0.300 will be the improved graphics. There are a lot of new textures and the new grass settings are really looking great. That means that you will need more performance from you pc in order to play without slow downs. A part from the graphics there will finally be a fantastic third person view!!! There will be a combat mode and a travel mode. In the first one you will see in first person, so you can take better the target. In the second one you will se the game with third person view and you will also move faster then in the combat mode. There are a lot of new gameplay features. now you can grill meat and fish at the fire for example and open barrels. Everything is sound animated. And more animations will come in the future. The main menu will also be animated.

There will also be a completely new hud (unfortunately not displayed in the images) and a brand new beta save function that saves the level of the player, the experience, and much more.

The change-log is the biggest ever made for TGC and It would require days to talk about every new feature and bug fix. It will be available the day before the release on the official homepage: http://www.thegoldencoin.do.am. The dialogs are completely rewritten and a lot of bugs fixed. And more, and more, and more...

Check also out the new fanpack for extra screenshots and elements: http://www.moddb.com/games/the-golden-c ... fan-pack-2

You will fell in the world of Arnaria soon...

That looks incredibly cool - and it doesn't look like a basic skybox which is great. Glad to see you making so much progress with this.
