Voxel-based engine project looking for team members

Voxel-based engine project looking for team members

Postby gnarlyman » 28 Mar 2012, 21:36

Hello there all,

I've recently launched an open-source project aimed at developing a scripting language and software for a voxel-based procedural generation language/engine. Design features include...

-Textureless, realtime graphics
-Destructible environments
-Greatly enhanced AI technique over current practices
-The ability to generate large-scale games with a fraction of current team sizes and budgets
-A whole bunch more

I've recently released a website for the project, http://www.redlettercalculus.com, which contains all of the initial design documentation (it amounts to several thousand words of docu). I'm looking to assemble a small team of 5-10 programmers. Please visit the site for all information...

Looking forward to working with anyone interested,
-Sam

Hello and welcome!

I see you chose GPL for you project. I recommend you do not simply refer to it as "GNU License" or "GNU Open License", as GNU is the name of the organization that has published various licenses. "GPL" is more clear. :)

That's a bit mean spirited Andrew.

Interesting project, gnarlyman. I've always had a fascination with voxels. I've never really believed in polygons as the best way to represent more organic material, they seem so inefficient - the primary efficiency coming from throwing many billions of dollars at hardware development to process them quickly.

Have you looked more closely at the PolyVox engine (formerly known as Thermite3d)?

It appears that Thermite3d still exists although it used to have its own website (http://www.thermite3d.org) but that seems to have been converted to a company website for promoting products created with PolyVox which (if I'm not mistaken) was split out from Thermite3d some years back.

I saw this PolyVox engine on the indiegames blog lately. The Voxeliens game they made with this engine looks kinda cute. And also this game (don't know which engine): http://indiegames.com/2012/03/cube_worl ... _adds.html

Now someone has to use this engine to make Mechcraft! :)
