Ethanon 2D game engine

Yes, that's known too. I prefered not to build an algorithm that avoids it for 2 reasons:
1. Since there's no real 3D geometric information about the entities, it would never look as good as in a 3D game.
2. I decided that it is better to assume that the level designer should take care of it instead of consuming lots of memory and calculations to avoid it. I know some would say that it's a lame excuse, but many game engines require well designed levels whose construction prevent artifacts produced by engine's limitations.

That's a valid reason, i guess. Is there a way to switch off those shadows that you only have the normal map effect?

Yes. There are two ways of doing that.
You may disable the shadows (in the entity editor) of all your project's entities or
you can call the function EnableRealTimeShadows(false) through the script language. That will disable all dynamic shadows for good, but it will keep the static (pre rendered) ones.

It would be convinient to post a brief release article to various linux news sites on the release date. Especially pro-linux.de.
->info(at-sign)pro-linux.de

Don't worry, they can translate it for you into german.
Also, an entry on happypenguin.org would help to spread the word.
Maybe i can help with the 1st then.

Hello,

I've just read cool news on project main site, about 'Penumbra'. It's side-scroller made in two weeks with Ethanon Engine.

Yes. I've been having less spare time than I wish I had, but I'm working on an Android port of the engine for the company I'm working for (this is going to take a while, I'll start with the GS2D base library, but don't worry, it will remain opensource) and I'll be working on the Linux port as a lab on current job.

Uhhh sounds very nice :) Hopefully someone will make a serious game using your engine soon. I for one would like to see some Diablo 2 like game :)
