I had a good go. I really like the tutorial, something sorely missed in many FOSS games.

There's something just a bit unsatisfying about moving the main character around... it's difficult to put a word on it but I think it's that there's no 'feel' to it, it feels flat, especially the jumping. Perhaps using some acceleration. Jumping should be a curve, not just one speed up, one speed down. A run button would also be nice to move more quickly when you are covering larger distances.

Pushing boxes shouldn't be done by just walking in to them. I think it should be like with pulling them, require that the action key is pressed so that moving them accidentally isn't possible.

The attack whilst jumping also feels very clumsy and is difficult to execute. Perhaps a different, longer strike, a slashing down.

I'd also like to see more bobbing by the character when moving/running. Perhaps his armour shaking a bit. He's very static when in motion, adding to the flatness.

Yes, let's try and keep 1 thread per project. :)

That'll definitely make sure that this forum stays clear and manageable.

Very pretty game! The slow movement speed is a real pain though.

Added the ability to continue against most bosses
that's very nice.

I need to try the newer versions of your game. :)

I recently had no internet access and no music on my laptop, but luckily I found some old tarball from legend of edgar (most likely from when you first posted it here^^) and listened to the music from it.
It was pretty good. :)

Just wondering, did you make it yourself this time or might there be issues again like with Metal Blob Solid?

For some reasons it remind me of the Sega game: Wonder Boy.

Keep it up !

I started again to play at legend of edgar and I'm enjoying it so far :-)
I'm playing with a joypad this time, it's great!

HI! thanks for the game! it is fun, but the tutorial level was kind of annoying, I wasn't quite sure at what time I was supposed to his the bats, and it seemed like the were a lot of different keys I was supposed to hit and they were kind of spread out which was a bit annoying. but it is still a very fun game!

Hi,

I haven't had time to retry the legend of edgar since the very first versions, but it looks like it's turning into another excellent game.

I was just wondering: What happened to the Metal Blob Solid (and the other games you made) section on your parallel realities site: http://www.parallelrealities.co.uk/ ?
Have you removed it? Why?

Please don't take this too negative: what's the license status of art, especially music and sounds?

I believe that the last time I checked there was no info on the audio sources and that the music was chiptunes taken 'from the web'. (I might confuse this with one of the blob games though).

riksweeney {l Wrote}:There's a version that complies (as far I know) with the DFSG that you can download from Sourceforge (it's the same game, just with no music or sound), which I've submitted to the Debian team for inclusion, but I think they want to add music and sound to it first.

That's very nice of you!

I helped SuperTuxKart replace non DFSG-compatible sounds [thread] and am trying to do the same for the art of Trigger Rally.

Are you interested in having DFSG-compatible sound and music? If people were to start looking for DFSG-compatible alternatives, would you support them with reviewing their findings and putting them into the game? Would you be willing to accept less-fitting sounds/music? Or would you prefer to not have to bother with this and instead prefer, if this was done with Debian people instead of with you?

I'm just curious what your view on this is. I have no plans yet to start such a thing. :)

riksweeney {l Wrote}:Replaced music and sound effects with properly licensed ones

Nice! https://sourceforge.net/p/legendofedgar ... d_licences

I recommend
1. adding links to where sounds were taken from (especially for CC-BY(-SA) 3.0 sounds)
2. adding the file path for music as well
3. having a legend for what license is available where at the top of the file, something like:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
GPL 3.0 - http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html
CC BY-SA 3.0 - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/
CC BY 3.0 - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
CC0 - http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

I'm stuck in the forest. I have only one heart and an enemy is blocked in a way that I cannot kill him without being hit.

It's a great little game Rik. Thanks for keeping us up to date with it.

May I humbly suggest that you could make Edgar's sprite look a bit more animated when running - perhaps the visor and red plume bouncing.
