Brief Description:
Facade is a futuristic, first-person 3D adventure game. It's designed for total immersion, with very little in-game UI, speculative loading and a compelling storyline.
Adventure games aren't mindless violence that merely hone your reflexes. A good adventure game doesn't tell a story. It shows the story. Facade's gameplay is puzzle-based, but it's not just about the puzzles.
It's about the narrative. The principle of showing the story, not telling it. This would be one of the first pure adventure games since the end of the Myst series, as the 2000s lacked notable 3D adventure games.

1. Have you settled on a code license?

2. Have you investigated whether the NC bit of your asset license choice might make it illegal to pull profit from ads? This probably depends on the kind of ads. On-website ads might be OK while in-game ads would probably be against the intention of the license. (I am not a lawyer).

3. You probably know of this but NC licenses make distribution via official Linux distro repositories impossible. On the other hand many coders and artists fear commercial abuse of their work when only attribution or copyleft (share alike) protection is applied to their work. What was your reason to pick a license that prohibits commercial use?

4. Are you aware of the penumbra games and open source engine release? Is the gameplay, which you envision, similar to Penumbra's?

5. I'm looking forward in advances in your project. It could would fill a spot in foss game (engine) space.

1. We're leaning towards the quintessential GPL v3, however, we'll consider other licenses, if need be.

2. In-game ads would likely be against the intentions of the game design, unless they were primarily there to add effect. Personally, I believe that on-site ads would be acceptable under this license.

3. " artists fear commercial abuse of their work when only attribution or copyleft (share alike) protection is applied to their work". Exactly that reason. I couldn't have explained it better myself.
Ideally, we'd provide the full game in some distro repos, or simply require the addition of a PPA, in the case of Ubuntu. We also wish to distribute it via the Ubuntu Software Center, Steam and/or Desura.

4. Somewhat similar, vis a vis the level of interactivity. However, Penumbra is in the "survival horror" genre, and still feels somewhat like a point-and-click adventure game. Facade is meant to be as distant as possible from point-and-click adventure games.

5. Thank you!

To 2. IANAL but to my understanding both donations and web-site advertisements (especially if the website features in-game material like screen-shots and videos) are not allowed under the terms of the CC NC option.

To 3: It's a common issue, but mybe it is possible to convince them otherwise? At least it would be worth a try as I am not aware of a single case where there was a significant commercial reuse of open-source art without the consent of the original creator. So IMHO the NC option is completely useless and only causes problems with well meaning projects like for example the distribution via distro-reps, Steam or Desura as all of those are run by commercial entities that are legally not allowed to host NC data.

http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Defining_Noncommercial ; it's 18Mb PDF so I'll read it another day, good luck :D

I'll add: using unfree material doesn't prevent from coming with some linux distributions. Debian has unfree repositories. Only a few distros stick to "only free" and have no easy way to handle them.
It is true, though, that unfree material kinda are neglected, may be both because of the lack of user audience, or also because proprietary stuff is harder to maintain inside a system.

We're looking into these issues.
And, we are also evaluating a possible change in license.
