Open Tibia is a project that aims to Open Source the proprietary 2D MMORPG Tibia by CipSoft GmbH.
It was started sometime around 2002-2003 and has come a long way, having developed different Open Source Game Clients, Game Servers, Map Editors, Monster Editors, NPC Editors, Item Editors, Websites, and much more.
All this software is available in Windows exe's as well as source code for use both on Windows, Linux and in some cases Android and other platforms (Unity).
Players, monsters, NPCs, spells, items, skills, chatting, walking, speaking, effects, everything is controlled completely by the game server, making it impossible to cheat beyond macroing and botting - hackers modifying the game client doesn't accomplish anything, for example modifying character speed speed, since the server controls every single step and movement completely, same for every other case, making Open Tibia a great reliable platform to develop 2D MMORPGs/MMO action/MMO adventure/MMO retro games with.
Some noteworthy custom games having been made with Open Tibia tools: Pacman, Snake, Tower Defense, CTF, Snowball war, Counter Strike, Pokemon, Zombie event, MOBAs, War servers (no loss on death, infinite resources, small maps, etc) and much much more.
Search youtube for "Open Tibia custom" for more results.
Many thousands of Open Tibia servers have been created, in this writing moment there's 436 servers online servers right now; see https://otservlist.org/

The main English forum for Open Tibia can be found at https://otland.net/
However due to highly authoritarian leadership, OTLand staff ignoring their own rules, and frequent censorship, a brand new alternative community site has been founded at https://opentibia.dev/ with the goal of seeking to rebuild our once entrepreneurial community.

The most popular client can be found at https://github.com/edubart/otclient and the most popular server at https://github.com/otland/forgottenserver.
