Even includes some major improvements.

This has still a big fan base so I would say it's pretty big news for open-source gaming :)

The developers have just decided to also open up all the media files (https://github.com/Soldat/base) by releasing them under the CC BY 4.0!
Looks like Soldat now really is free software! This is very good news.

I remember this game from years ago, and it's pretty neat, and I played it A LOT. So this definitely means a lot to me! :D

This first obvious step would be to post this game to various Linux distributions for the repositories. I'm not very fimiliar with the process, so if any of you have contacts to package maintainers, maybe give them a hint about Soldat. :D

I have not tested yet how “compilable” this game is, I need to try out …

Great, thanks for the update. Are there already easy to use binaries for ARM Linux?

I have no idea. I have not yet managed to build Soldat yet, and there seem to be critical bugs as well (at least for me). I hope they will be resolved eventually.

There is an AUR package for Soldat (AUR = Arch User Repository), but it also doesn't work for me.

The free software release is still young, after all, it seems there still needs a lot of cleanup work to be done, after all.
