Open source animation

Hi,

My project is not a game but an animation. I am interested in creating simple animations. Here is an example of 'The Happy Prince' by Orwell that I animated.

https://toonclip.com/player?key1=70daa95774

I had fun creating The Happy Prince animation above and would now like to develop original stories.

I am looking for collaborators to
1) develop simple stories that can run in an animation of a few minutes max.
2) develop the necessary sprites and images - many can be borrowed from the open source community.
3) put together the animation.

1 is mostly brain storming and reaching a consensus.
2 may take a few hours to a few days of work depending on image and story complexity.
3 can be done in a few minutes to a maybe an hour.

Another small animation that I created is attached below.

This project would be open and anyone would have the ability to create a fork or reuse the assets.

Anyone interested or have questions, please post here.

Thanks,

"The Happy Prince" is by Wilde, not Orwell!

I watched the animations, some are funny.
Is this project Free Software?

Ooops. I should have double checked the name :-)

Yes. Its free and all produced stories and animations are open.

Glad you found a few to be funny. Let me know if you have any more questions or interested in collaborating.

So it's basically like the classic Pivot Animator? If so that's amazing - I had a lot of fun using that as a kid and remember making trying to make a video with it. It didn't come to much and as soon as I saw the awesome stuff people were doing with it on YouTube, I gave up lol.

Never used Pivot Animator, but yes I suppose it is not dissimilar. Also aims to be a bit similar to CrazyTalk Animator.

In terms of the stick figure animator though, the closet in the free software is probably doing tweens with Synfig.

One of the first toy programming languages I made was designed to make it easy to turn ascii art into animated, colour ascii art.

You could simply create a "variable" (multi line strings were implicit) and draw your ascii sprite, change the colour, and place the sprite at any position.

It was a very minimal, very unsophisticated language based primarily on data, but animating it used actual commands. At the time I was hanging out with people who were especially fond of ascii art, and I have always loved it as well.

Hi,
Thanks for all the responses. Yes, toonclip is a drag and drop animator that is web based (no downloads needed). Also, all the animations created are "open source" ie other users are free to create their own versions.

Hello technopeasant - nice meeting you :-)
