OurBricks - a way to share open 3D content

I am working on OurBricks - http://beta.ourbricks.com/. We are using HTML5/WebGL tech to allow for easy viewing and sharing of CC licensed 3D assets. This 45 sec. video shows how to upload: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01nINimoPpI

Once the 3D content in on the site you can embed it back on your own site in an iframe. Here are some examples: http://ourbricks.com/testblog/

We currently support COLLADA (.dae) and obj files. We are looking into other types and are open to input and what it could be. In fact any feedback on the beta would be much appreciated.

At the moment the search facility is very poor. How can I find, for instance, good character models for a fantasy RPG game?

Also I think it would be nice if you could clarify the licensing (and make sure only FOSS compatible stuff is accepted if possible).

Otherwise a nice start... I just feel like having the 3D preview if more of a gimmick and there is also OGA and Blender swap with cover the needs pretty well.

Wanted to share news that the 3D content is now embeddable in forums like this:
http://www.igad.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=113&t=6216

For this to happen a forum admin would have to allow it and here is how it is done:

For the comments above: Thank you :) and there is a belated response to questions/comments:

Nice stuff, hope you guys get support for .blend s in the future

That is something that could happen. We are thinking about ways to make it easier to export content to us. The existing path is getting robust but an "export to OurBricks" button would be a lot easier.

At the moment the search facility is very poor. How can I find, for instance, good character models for a fantasy RPG game?

Search and general discoverability has been much improved since those words were written. Content is flowing onto the site but we would love more so that when you search for something you would always get decent choice.

Also I think it would be nice if you could clarify the licensing (and make sure only FOSS compatible stuff is accepted if possible).

We have decided that we should not dictate this. Some artist only wanted to share if they could get all rights reserved. It was not an easy choice to make internally but we decided to allow this. The choice also became to default to CC Attribution and overall that has been effective. Some people have upload both open and closed content and it seems that some like to have that choice. We are still evaluating what we should allow but for now I think we have a good compromise.

Otherwise a nice start... I just feel like having the 3D preview if more of a gimmick and there is also OGA and Blender swap with cover the needs pretty well.

Existing sites are doing well for a lot of things but we think there is room for another other way to do things. We do fundamentally think that sharing the the actual object rather than a picture of it has value. Especially people who use the content for real time application have a need to examine content. So we don't make you download something before you can do this.

At first I got a warning about my browser not being supported, so I applied this: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-enable- ... fox-4.html
The warning is gone, but now it's extremely slow.
Using Firefox 4 on Ubuntu 10.10.
