Sunflower - Card game engine seeks card games

Postby ShaiShap » 13 Nov 2013, 13:13

Hi everyone,

I want to introduce the Sunflower Virtual Gaming Table, a game engine for computerized card games (and in the future, other tabletop games). The project focuses on single-player gameplay, and attempts to make it as easy as possible for non-programmers to create games with it (not a single line of code necessary, except for creating AI). The code is licensed under the simplified BSD license.
The main mid-term goal of the project is to provide a copyright-free alternative to tactical collectible card games, such as Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone, and so on.

The project is already fairly advanced, with several games already playable (only one published, though - Hearts). However, the tools and interfaces for creating games are still not finalized and not well documented, because I want polish them with more published games before that. And this is where I need some help:

If anyone knows any good copyright-free card games, something you might want to be able to play against AI (or even to make an AI for, if you're a programmer), please let me know and send me a link to the game rules. Of course there are tons of classic card games I can implement, but I prefer to work on games which I know people will want to play.

If the screenshot seems familiar - Note that while the project has existed before that, much of the push for the advancement for the project came from the attempt to use it as a computerized version of the WTactics project. Seems like WTactics is kind of hibernating right now, but if and when the project comes together, the engine will be more than ready to provide a single-player experience for it.

One more thing, if anyone here might be interested in creating AI: There's a little spinoff I hope to make for this project in the future - I want to look into the option of creating various competitions between AI players in various such games, to encourage a strong open-source AI programming scene in a fun way. If there's any interest in such a project, please let me know.
