Ploobs Engine Alpha Version 4.0 Released

Postby tpastor » 18 Jun 2011, 18:10

Hi people,
Today i want to share with you my project called PloobsEngine

What is Ploobs Engine? =P
It is an OPENSOURCE engine for creating games and graphics applications developed in XNA 4.0, C #. Net 4.0 and HLSL. It is designed to be simple and easy to use even for those unfamiliar with computer graphics programming.
The framework developed is quite extensive and consists of several modules responsible for most common tasks used in games, such as: Input Control, Simulation, Physics, Graphics Rendering, Artificial Intelligence and Control Features.
More information about the project can be found here http://ploobs.com.br/?p=725 and http://ploobs.com.br/?page_id=233
We are looking for developers =P Specially graphics ones =P (no money involved)

Uhmm... XNA and C#? Where did I recently read an article about a developer ranting how they got f
***ed over by Microsoft and where totally locked in due to the choice of this platform? Don't remember, but he made some good points why it is not a good idea to work with this framework...
Otherwise... well open-source is nice but unless you count Mono, C# is not really portable at all, which makes you lose a lot of the benefits from having open-source code.
Sorry to be so negative about it...

The reason why it is opensource is for allowing anyone to look at the source code and learn some cool technichs. We were not thinking about people porting it to other plataforms, it is not our intention.

--
You can port any well designed engine to any plataform you want. (not our case ... yet =P)
The XNA is just the framework used for rendering (and playing songs), could be any other like directx, opengl wherever ... the architecture is what matters
I liked xna cause it is very powerfull (very close to directx 9c in terms of capabilities, but more accessible/easier).
... and Xna code can run on Pc, Phone7 and Xbox 360 for free. (there are some opensource projects that lets you put xna code in browers also =P)
all technologies have drawbacks and gains, it is inevitable =P

Well, depending on the engine design, it could be ported to use e.g Axiom, that does support Linux.
Relying on Mono for platform support could still be a bit problematic though.
