turn based rpg engine

Postby raptorus » 19 Oct 2010, 16:20

Hi

I just wanted to know whether somebody knows a rpg engine with a turn based battle system.
Final Fatasy 7 and so on.
But it shouldnt be sprite-based.

More like this:

Fall of Imiryn's engine could be used, Allacrost has one and EasyRPG is an intended RPGMaker clone (not usable yet I believe).

Don't remember anything else from the top of my head. What's your plan? :)

Sorry, your "not sprite-based" condition slipped my mind.

What would be the alternative to spite based? Text-based? 3D? Tactical combat that uses the 'normal' non-battle sprites during the battle? (like final fantasy tactics?)

Perhaps you could draw a mockup of how you visualize a battle in the engine you're looking for?

Ah ok. I guess by "not sprite based" he means more pictorial - so you just have static images representing characters / images rather than sprites that are animated and move around on screen.

I have seen such an engine on happypenguin.org before, but that is down at the moment.

If you're not afraid of programming you could use Allacrost and modify the combat system a bit, i.e. remove the player sprites, use bigger monster images, etc. ^^
