I just discovered this forum and wanted to post a question before you. There is a wealth of knowledge - that is obvious, even after reading about just a few of your projects. I am an American teaching English in China. I teach primary school kids and it is very, very difficult to get them interested - think about how wonderful it would be for first graders in the west to have to study Chinese? I am looking for some open source games that have the potential to be converted into educational games by answering questions at key points, or even games that are text based - but would like the ability to change the stories and words to make them suitable for 6 year olds studying another language. Do you have any ideas - websites I can look up - key words to search on, etc? Any help will be appreciated.

With renpy: http://www.renpy.org/ it should be probably easy to make some simple text based games. It also supports audio, so you can include some chinese voice-overs as I assume 1st graders can't read yet?

It a visual novel engine, e.g. for interactive story telling. Yes a bit like powerpoint

I am not an expert on it, but I think it is internally quite flexible to allow for more complex gameplay if wanted.
