scourge2 system requirements

scourge2 system requirements

Postby shirish » 17 Jan 2011, 15:28

Hi all,
I went to the scourgeweb.org site today and while the screenshots look great http://scourgeweb.org/tiki-browse_galle ... 7&offset=0 I'm not so sure or was not able to find any info. about the system requirements needed for the game.

I did read about scourge2 but was not able to find out about the system requirements. For instance I am on an Intel Integrated machine. A 2.8 Dual Core vintage machine having 256 MB of VRAM onboard. Can this game be played ?

Googling for the same I got buzz99.com/801/the-scourge-project-system-requirements/ but not sure whether they are talking of the same project or something else.

Looking forward for help.

No, it's not the same.

What keeps you from trying to play it to find out? Bandwidth limitations?

I can't help you, but the processor sounds OK. Do you have 3D acceleration?

Scourge2 is not really playable at the moment.

You can try it out here:
https://bitbucket.org/uzudil/scourge2

You can use mercurial or, if you just want a vanilla download, use the 'get source' link on the right.

It will be a while before it is playable because the lead dev is busy re-implementing a lot of the Scourge1 features but with Java, and he's still getting used to / working out the 3D issues with Java.

Actually I think I kind of rescued Scourge 2. I got in contact with Gabor (the author) due to the quiet nature of the website. He'd run into a wall with JMonkeyEngine v2, and didn't like the look of JMonkeyEngine v3, so was reluctantly looking at Panda3D. I pointed him in the direction of Ardor3D and the result is that bitbucket.org repo and development activity returning on Scourge2.

Hi quodop,
Thank you for the fast reply. What's keeping me from trying to play is :-
a. Instructions from where to download the file/s
b. Instructions about what is needed to compile.
c. Most of all is whether it would work with my system stuff or not. Otherwise it would be disappointing to do all of the above and not get it running.

I don't know but I don't think so. In fact in my system I don't have support for OpenGL 3.3, it tops out at 1.4 version. I actually found out the same http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=58886%20.

An update :- Went to scourgeweb again and this time was able to see the instructions but no mention of system requirements anywhere.

http://scourgeweb.org/tiki-index.php?pa ... Source_nix
http://scourgeweb.org/tiki-index.php?pa ... stallation

Update 2 :- In fact that information seems to be also outdated as given in the Ardor3d thread viewtopic.php?f=22&t=183

It seems that scourge2 uses hg https://bitbucket.org/uzudil/scourge2 but the wiki for it doesn't have any info. as well.
