Strange driveline export behavior

Strange driveline export behavior

Postby MTres19 » 15 Jun 2016, 04:39

Hello. I've been working on a track recently, but I'm running into some problems with the exporter. When I export the track, the driveline in one place is stretched bizarrely off the track, as in the attached screenshot. Needless to say, that's not how the driveline is in Blender. I do have a part of the track with a drop-off (it is deliberate, though I still have to work on it) but that's in a completely different section and isn't affected by the strange driveline behavior.

The track is still in its early stages, so I won't keep the .blend files secret, but I'd like to withhold my plans unless they're needed. I've attached both the one with the array and curve modifiers applied and the one without.

Here is what I think is the relevant portion of stdout. (Running in Artist Debug Mode)

Hello

I haven't tested it yet, but I think this issue is caused by too many vertices for the driveline-mesh. Your driveline is currently a copy of the road without faces, which is very high poly. I can imagine that STK messes up this path.
Try to reduce the amount of vertices used for the driveline and test again.

Hi,

I tried your blend and I don't see this problem. I may need a bit more info. Which OS, blender version, STK version, do you have the latest export scripts?

Hmmm... I also tried with a quarter of the polycount, but the problem remains. Here's my setup:

- OS: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Haswell (HD Graphics 4600)
- Blender 2.77a
- I'm using STK git from a few weeks ago. (I do have an Arch Linux USB drive, though. I can try testing on that.)
- I think I was previously using the 0.9.1 export scripts. I checked out the media repository on June 9, and when I started having problems with this I replaced the scripts in %APPDATA%\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.77\scripts\addons with the ones I had checked out from the media repository.

Thanks for your help,

I don't really know what's going on, I am using the same blender version with the same scripts, no idea what would be different.

Could you perhaps share the exported track too? Also I've been using the "Summitburg_Station_Track.blend" blend, that's the exact same one that you are exporting? I'm also not sure what is the purple bit in your screenshot, I don't see that

Sure, here's the exported track. (I exported on Arch Linux, same versions of everything except for a newer STK build---the problem persists.) The purple part was part of Artist Debug Mode. I was using the --track-debug flag, which shows drivelines.

Thanks,

Hi,

oh I understand better now. I initially thought the issue was with the mesh, I hadn't realized you were using the track debug mode.

Check the attached screenshot, at the point where the driveline breaks off, your mesh is improperly connected. I moved the vertices a bit in the second screenshot to make it clearer

Oh, I see. I forgot to enable first/last in the array modifier. Thanks!
