Gran Paradiso Island

Hello everybody :)

After 1.5 week of intense and stressful work, I can release a beta of my new track. It's a remake of the track Island.

First I want to thank everyone who get involved in this topic and especially 0zone0ne for his beautiful concept art.
Now many people contributed on the topic or on IRC. Unfortunately I wasn't able to include the idea of everyone. In a nutshell:
The cruise ship: I will probably add a cruise ship (it will be part of the landscape and she will move on the background). But I won't have the time soon and my priority is to finish the track.
The volcano: It's a classical cliché :). Unfortunatly putting 2 different theme in a track is difficult with the new engine. Basically STK engine uses the sky color for the general hue of the track. If the sky is red/yellowish the whole track will have nice warm and red reflexion. If the sky is blue (which is the case in the island) the lava will have a blue hue. That won't work :(.
However 0zone0ne, I guarantee, your concept art will be used for fort magma, and I might add a little volcano in Gran Paradiso.
Hiker your idea of a part of the track that will be only accessible at low tide is included, also some characters will build sandcastle.

Now I think I'm ready to show you the track.
The general layout is similar to the old track there is minor changes and two alternate "secret" road.
It's a tropical island in the Caribbean region. There is an off road section on the beach.

Bonus
I have also converted some karts to use the new engine.

Screenshots look great :)

About the lava thing, maybe you could shift the color to the opposite of blue to make it redder agan?

I don't think the track really needs the lava section, I looks varied enough to me already.

Hi Krobonil, this is a nice little tune, but maybe it's a little too quiet/calm for a racing mood?

Hi Krobonil,
For some reason or another, I am unable to reply to the email you sent me. Is the email address you use on this forum still valid? Apparently the domain name does not exist...

@Krobonil

I think your music is very good. I think it perfectly matches the leisurely, holiday-like feeling of track. I especially like the harmonic progressions from around 00:19 - 00:35.
Do you think that the piece could benefit from a little more substance underneath? I think it would be possible to add some more complicated things going on in the music (maybe a nice bassline) while still keeping the calm, holiday-like feeling.
To test this, I quickly added a drum kit to a small section of the music. The drums are a bit loud, making the instruments sound unbalanced, but you can hear how it adds a fuller texture, and I think it makes the piece more fitting for a race while maintaining a somewhat calm, serene feel.

In response to your email, there is no problem about the delay. It's fine. :) Also, if you feel ok with me experimenting with your music, then I would need a MIDI file, or at least some kind of basic notation.

Maybe we could try having the drums played with brushes instead of sticks to make them softer.

They're actually already brushes, but I agree that they're being hit way too hard.

I hadn't the time Yet to listen to the music.
But basically there is an airport with low landing planes. So it's not something calm
We are a racing game the music needs to match the action

Thanks Krobonil! :) I will see what I can do with the music as soon as possible (It may be a while since I have exams next week).

Here is my progress for the music arrangement. I tried very hard to mix it in a way that's consistent with the new Cocoa Temple music. I hope you like it so far. :)

@Krobonil
I especially want to hear what you think of it, since it's your composition. ;)

I will probably wait until samuncle reveals more about the track before I work on any new versions of the music. It probably isn't a large priority right now.

Yep, excellent collaboration :)

I get the feeling of dropped pitch again though, around 0:10 when the strings start. Maybe you can do the same fix you did with the last track.

Hi

The music is cool and is perfect for a paradise island/sun/holiday/etc.
I will probably wait until samuncle reveals more about the track before I work on any new versions of the music. It probably isn't a large priority right now.

I'm not sure yet but the general idea of the track is done. Sure there will be more vegetation more details, more stuff but the global theme is a paradise island with people enjoying the beach, playing with giant balls. There is an airport and sometime a big airplane land.

That's the general mood of the track. I don't think there will be much more. I might in the future (aka after 0.8.2) add a cruise ship passing nearby

Thanks for your contribution. I will add soon as possible the music to the track. However I might have something that will slow down my work a bit because my hard drive has some issues :/. I hope I won't lost something related to stk.

In that case I'll get on to doing the final mix and make a fast version for the last lap.

I have a cruise ship already modelled for my first project "Port" (suspended at the moment due to the difficulty to upload the file in the 8.1 version) and now, I have added the ship to my new project that's an resort island (far, very far from Caribe...) and I can release the file if somebody has interest to add it to some track.

The ship:

It was fun working with you Krobonil, perhaps we should collaborate again sometime. ;)

[samuncle] Thanks for your submission :). I have included your work in the game

Ozone/Krobonil as explained in your post I included your music in the game :).

The only minor modification was the title. It's now "Landing in Gran Paradiso". I think it's a bit more interesting than just beach.ogg.
