New Sandtrack

Postby jymis » 11 Sep 2014, 14:12

Hey, i'm back and i'm working on Sandtrack again.
Because certain things changed, as you may know, it was decided to entirely rework tracks. It's also the case of Sandtrack !

So i cogitate about new trails and i realized some sketches, but sometimes it's hard to forget the old track. I care for showing it to you, so that we could cogitate together. :)

Don't hesitate to tell me what you like or dislike, what ideas it inspires you.

Soon i will post here :

* new sand texture

Other ideas i have :
* 1 or 2 beettles/sand tornado moving in the way, hinder karts passage
* beetles moving on pyramid's ceiling

I like the village, however I'm not sure if electricity is good in this track. I would keep technology visibility very low. Maybe some TV antennas.

However there is some pop culture theories about an old Egyptian light bulb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendera_light. It's in fact a lotus flower but why not using it as a lightbulb (archaeologists won't be happy :P).

You can wire them to a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery

The outside of the pyramid should IMHO be in ruin, however inside you can add mummies, old curses, etc.

Looks pretty good (especially the textures), although if chocolate (the first next-gen track) is anything to go by, then you'll probably want to put a lot more stuff by the roads than the drawings show.

For the beetles, you could use the new animated spritesheet feature to make their legs move and normal mapping to make them look 3D.

Hi, looks nice. Though I agree with samuncle, technology should be kept to a minimum, we will have other tracks with a city or sci-fi theme where technology will work better. I think this one would work better with a more "ancient ruins" theme

The track? Looks like the OP's goal is to make it that way.

Err, textures should be in 1024, i know, it's my mistake. But now that the lead artist assured me that 1024 wasn't too heavy for the project, i shall not make this mistake anymore.

Hey, thank you =)

I thought that it would be interesting to put more colors in a shield by suggesting that the cow skin was dyed. That's why i chose this blue. But to see your reaction it seems that it was a silly thing.

So, do you prefer this kind of shield instead ?

I'm pretty bad at english, it's not my first language. So I was looking for definition of the word "dyed". And it turned into something creative.

I have an idea, for the village instead of a regular market with stuff like meat, fruits, vegetables, etc (I already made that for Chocolate).

Why not creating a market of color, with pigments, colored powder, paint pots
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indian_pigments.jpg
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ASqBTaXtA6c/U ... C00453.JPG
https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5083/5233 ... 487b_z.jpg

This is original, very colorful and we can put the price with the HTML code of each color :). That would be so much fun.
Like color #0A1B2A 10$

We can even try to make something similar to the interface of photoshop/gimp/krita :P. But it's still in the real world. but the general organization would be similar to these software.

This transform the egypt track into something very creative not like into a copy of drydry desert.

There's an excellent thread on the Kingdom of Kush on the 0AD forum with tons of visual references - you might get some inspiration from there:

The original post was published in 2014 and has been not updated for more than 4 years. Seems like the project was abandoned by the author (Jimys).

I'm aware, I was wondering if anyone here still had a copy of the download since the link (http://42.meup.org/WhxgQYzq/sandtrack7.7z) is now dead. Samuncle do you maybe have a copy of this track?
