New Feature

I saw my cousin playing the game and could see she was clearly struggling with the controls as she isn't familiar with how to play with the arrows on the keyboard. I then thought, there has to be an easier way of playing the game and having fun at the same time, right? So I thought about it a lot and came up with a possible suggestion that could help people play the game more easily.
The one suggestion I have is using the mouse button.
Why not have the mouse as an optional controller itself? The left click as accelerator, the right click as reverse, and maneuvering the mouse to left and right in accordance to the direction the kart should turn, but keeping the space button at the same time.
I'm no programmer, but I think it may help the user to be able to chose their preferred controls. What do you think?

Hi,
this might be possible, but steering with the mouse will be difficult unless we materialize some kind of driving wheel on-screen with a cursor controlling it. Unfortunately that's non-trivial work, so I don't expect to see this in the near-future. The most intuitive interface of course is to plug a driving wheel

but ok most people don't have that I know

You're right, a driving wheel would definitely be cool and fun! =D
Then what about using the W,A,S,D keys? Do we have an option to change the controls to that? Or how about having an option where the user are allowed to choose their own function keys for their own ease?
I know it may not seem much different to using the arrow keyboards as that may be one of the most simplest controls, but if there is an option for a person to decide for themselves what keyboards to use could help. Take my cousin for example, she is actually left-handed, so you probably can imagine her having a little bit of difficulty. XD

You know that you can rebind keys in the in-game options, right?

A driving wheel on-screen with a cursor is not necessary. Try this game,
http://www.racer.nl/ you can control the car with the mouse. At the beginning it is not easy but with some training you can easily drive the car.

how about, we develope some kind of technnology that incert itself into the brain and read our thoughts and steering whenever you think of it?
or perhaps just develope AI that control the players movement and finishes the track by itself.
that would be easy for players.

chronomaster: AFAIK someone already invented this for steering wheelchairs.
We only need to translate the signals into USB HID signals, and we can use the feature.

Guys, you're doing it wrong. Controls confuse people, so obviously, the only solution is to get rid of them entirely. Problem solved.
