Trouble creating a SuperTuxKart track in blender

Creating a plane in blender and removing an edge seemed like a good idea for creating a start position but having 2 errors trying to export track from blender:
[('WARNING', "object Plane has type property 'start', which is not supported.\n"), ('ERROR', 'Cannot find the B3D exporter, make sure you installed it properly')]
I saw you could Add -> Empty to create a start, but I couldn't figure out how to do it with arrows, circles, etc.
Also, the wiki isn't that descriptive for how to create a track. It would be really nice if someone could put basic step by step instructions that tell you exactly what you have to do in blender. I know that takes some of the fun out of it, but it is not an easy way to make a track. I had started with zero experience in blender, so I'm barely getting the hang of using it to a really limited extent now. I had high hopes that I could just import an svg, extrude it (which I was never able to do), and then somehow drive around the extruded drawing. Not sure why I was thinking it would be that easy.
