adding sound emitters

PostPosted: 29 Apr 2013, 18:39

i want to add sound emitters in my track, but the sound doesn't play,

i added something electric and i want that you can hear a sound
i don't hear this sound nehr these electric things, but i hear this sound near the start-area of he track

i don't know if this is a bug or if this has something to do with the settings of the sound-emitter

now it comes a second thing(the sound-emitter-problem is not solved yet)
i want to add billboard light halo-effects, the problem is, that these look so "flat", how can i solve this, that i have round halos???

i think, that the problem with the sound emitter could be a bug
the sound emitter is an emtpy near the electric things(see image on top) and i wanted that i hear a electrical sound near this.
i tested it with different settings, without "Play on approach", i hear the sound, but only near the startpoint
if i activated "Play on approach", i hear the sound, but with a break.

(1 = sound playing, 0 = sound not playing)
i hear it so, when "Play on approach" is activated
11111000001111100000111110000011111

but i want it so:

1111111111111111111111111111111111

without "Play on approach" i hear the sound, like i want, but this is the wrong place, where the sound plays

the next problem with "Play on approach" is that i can only use a short distance to play (only 20), the sound doesn't seam to fade in (getting louder), when coming closer to the emitter, it starts loud

For directional sounds, make sure the sound file is mono and not stereo.

the soundfile is mono

About the sound issue maybe you can share the file. In other tracks, sound emitters work just fine so I don't they are bugged

i took the sound file from stk, the original file is bzzt.ogg, that i copied and changed for this track
i made this sound seamless

in greenvalley-track i hear a sheep-sound, this has not " play on approach" activated, but the sound emitter is near start, so i hear it only on start-region

i haven't found a track, where a sound with "play on approach" is activated and i haven't found a track with a seamless sound

Hi,

can you share the complete track? I just tested and I hear nothing incorrect

:( upload failed

i tried to upload the src-files, where you can export the new track with the sound-issue, but the upload failed,
i had se same errors like yesterday
when i tried to upload it first time today i had this error again:

File Exception: exception 'FileException' with message 'Failed to extract archive file. (gz)' in /data/web/5b/eb/7c/stkaddons.net/htdocs/include/File.class.php:123 Stack trace: #0 /data/web/5b/eb/7c/stkaddons.net/htdocs/include/Upload.class.php(73): File::extractArchive('/data/web/5b/eb...', '/data/web/5b/eb...', 'tar.gz') #1 /data/web/5b/eb/7c/stkaddons.net/htdocs/include/Upload.class.php(49): Upload->doUpload() #2 /data/web/5b/eb/7c/stkaddons.net/htdocs/upload.php(158): Upload->__construct(Array, 'source') #3 {main}

after that i looked inte to folder of my track-src files and i saw there was the blend1 (not the normal blend-file ) file i forgot to delete
i think that this file makes the src-archive to big for the upload,
after that i tried to upload the src files now, but i had this error now

Failed to create temporary directory for upload: /data/web/5b/eb/7c/stkaddons.net/tmp/uploads/1367516727-spaceship-src.tar.gz/

i will try to upload it on another place

i resized the lightmap-images from 1024x1024 to 512x512, that made the src-files 4MB smaller

could someone delete the old src-files of my track, because i can't do this, i want to re-upload the new src-files,

the new src-files are not much bigger than the old, because the track got 4MB smaller as is was before(before it was 18MB, now it is ca. 14)

now i have here the new file

http://platen-software.de/sebastian/spaceship.tar.gz

i have the src-files here and the exported track file

when testing out the sound-problem, you can test it also with "play on approach" unactivated, then i hear the sound normal, but on the wrong place

i added an image to show, where the sound-emitter is

Hi,

okay now I understand. "Play on approach" is designed to be used with non-looping sounds only, typically over a short distance. For instance it can be used to play a splash when going through a waterfall. If you want the lightning arcs to make sounds, just disable "play on approach" - but with a proper rolloff, 0.003 is very very small and will make the sound heard everywhere. Try using a value like 0.05

i tried it wth a rolloff with 0,05 and without "Pay on approach", now i hear the sound without breaks, but only near start

there a setting-field more, where i don't know, what it is , it is named "sound conditions", what is this???

condition is custom for internal use, it's used in some complex cases on the overworld.

maybe you will again need to share the file, I remember trying exactly what you described and it worked well for me...

i tested it for me 3 or more times and it didn't work

always, when i had "play on approach" disabled, the sound played without breaks, but only near start
and always, when "play on approach" enabled, the position was the right, but i always had these breaks

i don't know, if i can solve this problem for me and why i need to upload the file again

and i wan't to now, what works for you and how works it?

I need to see exactly what you tried. I do not know what the problem is, and I cannot reproduce it, so I cannot guess : I need to see the problem myself to solve it

first try:
first i tried it with these settings:
02.png
02.png (14.21 KiB) Viewed 15572 times

Here was the problem, that i heard the sound from beginning of the race
when i drive to the first items/boxes, i hear it very loud, when i drive from this point away, i doesn't hear the sound anymore.
I have a sound-emitter in my track on a position, where i don't hear it

+ right position of the sound
- breaks when playing the sound

second try

then i tested it it with "play on approach"
01.png
01.png (15.85 KiB) Viewed 15572 times

now when i start the race, i don' t hear the sound from beginning, that is good now
i had the sound on the right place, but i have these breaks

- not the right position of the sound
+ no breaks when playing the sound

i would like to have it so:
>> right position of the sound
>> no breaks when playing the sound

you can test it with these settings, changing the settings in the blend-file i uploaded some days ago and re-export it.
if you have the same problems or not, you can write it here or when it works for you

I'm sorry, I tried "configuration 1" and it works perfectly for me. Unless I see the exact file you used I have no idea, it works for me....

i have 2 files here:

http://platen-software.de/sebastian/spa ... ry1.tar.gz
http://platen-software.de/sebastian/spa ... ry2.tar.gz

(i used blender v.2.66 and the newest exporter-files)

when playing the try1, you should hear the sound, when you are under the white untextured cube i placed in this track
now drive to the arcs, there is the next white untextured thing, you won't hear anything,
(the sound emitter isn't where the sound plays)

then start try2

you hear the sound with breaks(for non-looping sounds), not on the first untextured cube, but on the second untextured cube

some days before you wrote

Auria {l Wrote}:okay now I understand. "Play on approach" is designed to be used with non-looping sounds only, typically over a short distance. When "play on approach" is disabled i hear the sound, but i hear the sound on the wrong position, because i didn't place the sound-emitter where it plays in try1
i placed it, where the lighning arcs are and where you hear the sound in try2
I have only two possibilities (see try1 and try2)

in try2 you can only use non-looping sounds

the solution for this problem would be, that you also can use looping sounds,

Sorry,

your link does not work :

You don't have permission to access /sebastian/spaceship-try1.tar.gz on this server.

And I think there is no use to continue trying with "play on approach", that's really now what it was intended to do.

I don't really know, what you mean

i think, that i have to upload the track without the sound-effect
