Coin Rush/Dash mode

Currently there is only one « new mode » for singleplayer: follow the leader and one new mode for multiplayer: Soccer mode ;)

I want to present you this idea i was thinking of it for a long time: we can call it “Coin rush” or “Coin dash” something like that (that could be maybe more simple to code.)
There will be little differences between races and arenas

Races:
This is a 3 three laps race with a minimum of 2 players. There are many coins of the track (60-70 per track is a good ratio) that respawn when you collect them after 3 second approximately. You have to collect as much coins as you can!

If someone hit you, you lose lot’s of coins on the track. (These do not respawn but other players can catch them!)

Rubber ball: -6 coins
Bowling ball : -4 coins
Chewing-gum : -2 coins
Cake : -5 coins
Swatter : -3 Coins
Plunger: 0 Coin
At the end of the race:

-->At the end of the race: The first player will keep all his coins and the others will loose their coins (2 coins per second) until they reach the end of the track ! :cool:

People who have collected the biggest number of coin win the race!

One more thing ;) : the bomb is now a golden bomb (the only one difference is that you can't remove it with your swatter) your kart explode and you lose 10 coins :D

Arenas:
A round last 2:00

Seems like a good idea to me! I'm not sure for the initial random player that has the bomb, it depends on how hard it is to give the bomb to someone.

A remark for races, from an implementation point of view: drivelines could probably be used to choose the places where the coins are? That's not viable for arenas though.

For the bomb, maybe if someone hit a banana and obtain the bomb; that will be this bomb (by changing its texture to show that this bomb is different: like a "Gold bomb"). I think this makes the race be even more funny :cool:

Yes ! But i think several of parallel lines are needed; some part of tracks with few coins, some parts with lot's of coins.

Yes I prefer this way, seems fair to me :)

Sure, but parallel lines would be easy to get from the original driveline I think :)

Sure, but parallel lines would be easy to get from the original driveline I think :)

Of cource :D . I will have to find next a small sound for coin and work on bomb texture

This sounds like a blast! Love the bomb/banana switching idea. The image you made looks great, but more like wood then metal to me (don't know if that was intentional). Maybe take that into consideration when looking for sounds.

Thank you ;). Yes the first player who hit the banana will have this bomb :D
I don't think the coin look like wood... :|, the coin will be too small to see something like this: so my effects were useless ^^ and i think the color is just what we need! ;)

About the red/gray coins: Naaah, not red or gray. Gray would look like silver and red does not look evil enough. Make them black and let’s call these “anti-coins” because this is basicly what they are ;) And perhaps there should not be a Tux on them, but a Nolok. ;)

On the other hand, I don’t really like the idea of putting a character drawing on the coin, it would be too Tux/Nolok-centric.

A neutral representation would be to put a big “1” on the (golden) coins and a big “−1” on the anti-coins.

Another alternative would be to combine both: The (golden) coins have a “1” on one side and a Tux picture on the other side; the anti-coints have a “−1” on one side and a Nolok picture on the other side. This is probably my favourite variant. Also many real-world coins look like this: “head and tails” (except the heads aren’t Tuxes and Noloks of course and there are no anti-coins ;))

The best alternative would be to let the player choose. :)

Letting choice to an application user is often a good idea, but I wouldn't say this reasonning also works for games ^^.
And what about herrings, to be coherent with TuxRacer / ppRacer / ExtremeTuxRacer?

I think tux is better for the coin. What other characters would risk life and limb to get herrings? :)

I don't think herring is a good idea, there is no link with StK
And this is SuperTuxKart so Tux can do the job Nicely ! :)

First, the golden texture looks awesome! :twisted:
But I think a small treasure chest full of gold would be more self-explanatory.

I have to wait for people who are able to code but this mode isn't currently the highest priority. (Be patient :) )

Two differents sounds for coin from "Supertux" so there will be a choice to do (amazing game --> http://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Down ... t_Binaries)
The second one is better IMHO
I just have to ask them who did this sound :)
