Tux Racer - My Latest Track

Tux Racer - My Latest Track

Postby Hero » 13 Dec 2012, 20:20

I'm proud to announce my latest track, Tux Racer or Tux Racetrack or something like that.

Screenshot-8.png

As you can see I still need to add some models, textures and what have you. I also have bugs to fix including the sky-sphere not showing up and the checkline. If you want to play it's current state:

Also here is a previous version of the track which is basically crap. For now I'll post it too.

The first one was one of the faultiest meshes I ever noticed without Unrail's help. So I don't think the old one was good.

That bug is known. It's because of the sky-is-not-there bug I outlined previously. I've since fixed it.

You mean zippers pointing multiple ways? That was a problem with Blend for the wrap but I liked the effect so I kept it.

The tower texture was drawn up in about 5 minutes. I tried to make it look a bit like the stuff in Stadium.

Obstacles. The reason why I don't have them is because I still have that problem with the browser. I can't set up an object that easily and if I did it wouldn't react correctly. But I can make some stuff do dodge... :D

I like that this track is so wide, you can take over others really easy.

Some feedback:
  • When I install the track (just put it in my data/tracks folder), it appears in a new tab Race in the track selection GUI. I think you can better put it just in the normal add-on tab.
  • It seems that the grass in the middle doesn't slow you down (or just a bit). Is that intentional?
  • For me, the pylons are fixed: when you collide with them, they don't fall over.

Okay, thanks, mostly my tracks are crap.

Yeah, I put it in race for now while I'm testing it so it doesn't take me or anyone else so long to hunt it down. But I guess I can put it in the add-ons tab now that it has an icon.

I don't want to deal with terrain slow-down as it would require me to write in the materials file again. Unfortunately as I don't have a browser I can't do it so easily.

The pylons are as complete obstacles for the same reason as above. I don't really want them there but I put them in it just for a trial run.

Here you are:

Redone pylons so that they have a nicer pattern and made them look better graphically. I also put it under Add-Ons so Race no more!

Easy to correct.

What? Not my past haunting me again! When you were doing your port to On The Beach you had it easy with the Browser (no offence). I don't have a working browser so I have to write the stuff and do it with properties. If my browser worked I could do the obstacles in 20 seconds flat (and I'd be happy to too). If someone with a browser did them and then sent the resulting blend to me I would be able to do it. But at the moment I can't.

Sorry that I'm rude here but it's difficult not to be.

Sorry, but I can't get them to be obstacles. I'd love them to be but I can't do it. If you want take my model in Blender and put the obstacle information on it. Then save and send the blend to me. If you don't want to do that just find some other problems in the track.

On it!

I may be able to resolve the issue of the pylons. But I don't know how good that will work.

Sorry Ludsky,

I GOT THE PYLONS TO WORK!

I downloaded the source of Classic Tux Tollway and reviewed how the pylons worked. Then I tried to make mine work the same way. IT WORKED! So now you can thank yourself for getting me to do obstacles (and for teaching me another French swear word).

I also fixed the zippers.

About terrain slowdown. I'm going to hold that one for now and experiment a bit before actually releasing it.

Unfortunately you're assuming that I can do any shape with the physics at any time right now. Actually I can't. I can guess what it would be but I can't say whether I'll be able to add barrels.

Though I have an alternative...

Podium: ...

You said nothing? Is there ANOTHER meaning to that word (slightly more polite maybe?)? Maybe remove it...
