Step 3 in flooding stk with new arenas

. I think that this is a better one than About the Garage. It's quite a simple layout. You basically go in circles around the arena but don't worry!, there's a good bit of variety. Don't worry about finding one another (people who don't like that kind of thing) as if you keep track of your opponent you can arrange an encounter easily. I won’t even try to describe it, you can get a general idea of the arena from the screenshot provided. Hope you all like it. As always all ideas are welcome and opinions, good or bad, are wanted as well.

Hi Cheese,
very interesting track layout

but maybe you could concentrate on quality more than on quantity? This area as well as the castle could be hits if you could work on improving there quality. For instance in this arena, I'm not sure what the brown things sticking out of the ground are

and in this arena, particularly, I think it could be more interesting with slightly more varied textures - as well as castle could be more interesting with smooth transitions between textures. Just some constructive feedback

Yes, you're right, perhaps what i should do right now is to stand back and make the visual look of my previous arenas nicer. Anyway the key step, arena layout, is done on some of them. For instance, now that Champion's Castle's layout is good it would be very rewarding to make it look nice. For now i'll set the brakes on ideas and try to up the quality of my previous arenas.

I'm going to start with Champion's Castle, what i consider to be my most successful arena. Auria, it probable hurt you when i did that lame, semi green dirt strip when you suggested a transition. I hope that this time you will not be disappointed. I made a nice blend of grass and dirt in photoshop and positioned it correctly (in the picture the entrance to the tunnel isn't proper, don't worry i've fixed it already). Really, now if I could way up the looks of C's C it would improve the arena greatly. Please, creativity can go only so far in one person, give me any idea which you've got because now i'm really really open to things connected with looks. Another thing lacking in the arena is that the water just runs into the dirt (or now grass) edge. Perhaps i could make a little thing under there that lets it go into darkness, any ideas?

Some ideas : use vertex colors to make the inside-most part of the cave darker
Then you could add some plants or other stuff on the brown walls to make them more interesting, and plants on the ground too. You could easily re-use models from other tracks for the plants
And look at the screenshots I attached.
In quads.jpg, we can easily see that each quad is textured independently, resulting in visible lines where the texture is not smooth. If you learn better texturing techniques you can fix this
In bricks.jpg, we can see the bricks at the top are cut off. Try moving the texture so that the top edge is exactly between 2 brick layer

Thanks for pointing out the errors and giving suggestions. Here are some shots of the improvements that i've made. As you can see ive set new textures for the castle, the bridge, and the fence. I placed it properly so that it's pretty much seamless around the circle. Also, the water runs into a cavish thingy which looks a whole lot better than it did before. In the other pic i've darkened the inside of the tunnel. Near in the picture it's dark and then at the entrance it gets a bit lighter and then at the very entrance it's the shade of the dirt outside. I'll need to see about plants, trying to find good models or might make one myself. Another thing that i'll do is to put a plane beneath the water which resets the kart. That way you'll get a splash when you hit the water but won't be reset until the kart is partly submerged.

Some new changes made to the arena. The biggest one is the plant which I made and have populated about the arena. That makes it more cheery and gives it some extra green. Another one is that I made all the rocks one texture. That way you don’t have desert rocks over here and cave rocks over there, they’re all one, black kind of rock. I think i'll leave vegetation at the level of shrubs as they are easy and look nice.
