New Arena - Texture properties?

Another problem here. Now that i've gotten the bridge between sketchup and blender i'm trying to make the last one between blender and stk. I have been able to get the textures all good. By exporting a .kmz file from skp, making it a .zip and extracting it. Then all the textures are in the folder along with the .dae. The reason why i've come here is because i've got some water in my track that must reset the karts apon contact but i can't get it to work. In the Properties>Scene>STK Image properties. I select the water texture and check "Reset Kart (on touch)" Do i need to put something in "Particles on Hit"? Even if not i'd like to know how to get a nice splash.

I've attached the .blend file of my idea for an arena. It's still a work in progress (i'll post it soon for you to try) but i think that it will be fun. I'm calling it "Blender Castle" and its got a blender flag at on of it the towers of the castle to keep with this. There's a "SECRET PASSAGE" from the castle to the field beside it :) and multiple ways of crossing the stream in the middle of the map.

I've been working on this arena for a little while and now it's into the game. I've made a lot of changes to it in the past few days and it's coming along nicely. If you like, I'd be happy for you to download it and tell me what you think of it and or give suggestions of how i can make it better. The attachment is a compiled version of the track so you should be able to test it in the game (i know for sure for windows at least).

Thanks for the link Auria, i also animated the water so that it moves.

Hi,

very nice work, congratulations!

I might recommend adding some kind of transition between the grass and the brown walls though? I think it would look nicer

definitely feel free to submit this track to the add-ons

Thanks for trying it out guys, i'm REALLY glad that you like it! My plan is it work on it a little bit more (i've still got enhancements to make) before i put it into the addons site. Just asking again in case - right now is the easiest time to change anything about the arena so i'm going to do as much as i can, if you happen to have any suggestions i'm completely open to them (within a reasonable range of course). I do have a question about submitting an addon though. They say that you should make a liscense.txt for all the textures. I've got a blender flag which is a screenshot of the blender logo, do i need to say anything about that? Also, all the other textures are from sketchup, which are free(i'm assuming since the program's free). Anything need to be done there? Making sure so that i don't violate the terms :). Cheesebrother

Unfortunately the textures being "free" as in gratis is not sufficient for STK, they also need to be open (libre) :/ you could try to check under what terms these textures are released. In any case don't despair because http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Lic ... find_files contains LOTs of free textures and also, perhaps even easier, you could just take textures from other STK tracks

Ok, i'll just get all the textures from other stk tracks. What about the blender logo?

Now i've made it so that all the textures are from other stk tracks. Just the logo is in question.

Just asking again about the blender logo. Maybe i should say something like this?

"The blender logo is a trademark of the blender foundation."

Also I though this might do for all the others.

"Aside from the blender logo all of the textures are from super tux kart and are therefore completely free."

I don't know. Anyway i'll soon put the arena into the addons so that you all can have it really easy.

Maybe you can use another logo, like the STK logo

Different logo and name change coming up! I looked into the stk textures folder and saw the cup_gold.png texture... "Champion's Castle" coming up! That way i could just say:

"Every single texture is from Super Tux Kart and is therefore completely free."

or maybe this would be better

"Every single texture is from other Super Tux Kart tracks and arenas and are therefore completely free or have proper approval."

Thanks for finding that blender link Auria. I liked the blender flag :( but you can't always get what you want in life :). I thing that the cup picture is good enough.

You can probably say that all assets are from SuperTuxKart and mention their license; e.g. if you see all are CC-BY-SA 3.0 it's nice to mention it; if all are CC-BY-SA except for one GPL texture you can say that all assets are either under CC-BY-SA 3+ or GPLv2+.
Not sure if it's required, but it can make it easier for people wanting to redistribute or change your addon that they know exactly what license terms applies.

Yeah usually it's recommended to mention the author and license of each file, because if you just say "I took it somewhere else in STK" that somewhere else can be removed sometime later and then the license of your file becomes unknowable

Ok, thanks for getting me on the right track. I'm finding all my textures in the Lisence.txt files and am copying all the lisences into my lisence.txt file.

Oh and one thing. The only texture i couldn't find the lisence for is the picture of the gold cup which is the new flag. I searched the lisence.txt for "cup_gold" but couldn't find anything. What lisence is that under? It's just under "Data\Textures\cup_gold.png" I really hope that this is the last question i ever have to ask with regard to this arena!

Thanks. I just uploaded the track to the add-ons website. As soon as it is approved by moderators you can get it in the game! The whole look is a bit different (as you can see in my latest picture) because of the change in textures and you'll find a few other changes which i made to make it nicer such as the hill behind the rock in the corner.

Thanks for all your help Auria in getting me set up with this, and Arthur for your help with the licence.

You HAVE NOT seen the last of me! Now that i am set up and know the process of making arenas i will make any idea that i get. Right now i've got an idea which i'll post soon. This is quite a unique thing with STK, in the past i've always though how much fun it would be to make the levels in games and now i'm having fun doing it with this one. Maybe i'll make a track sometime. Cheesebrother

Another question with regard to license. What lisence is stonesgray.png which is in snowmountain under and who made it? The license file sure are hard to plow through! :) Is it okay if i make mine clear, with many lines in it?

Good point about stonesgray, forgot this one. It's under GPL by the original (Super)TuxKart team (they didn't leave us more specific info)


and it's sure fine if you make yours clear
